I've been assembling the Devil's Shadow this weekend, and it's been more frustrating than I expected, especially he legs. I found it difficult to position the models properly such that both legs touch the ground and their pose doesn't look silly. Fortunately I more-or-less pulled it off in the end, but I feel as if the models could probably have been cut in such a way that both legs were one piece, and then the torso was seperate, and it would have been much easier to assemble.
Ok, that wasn't much of a rant. Just kinda bored right now and trying to kill time. Feel free to agree with me, or tell me that I'm a noob and assembly was easy for you, or just share pictures and stories of your Mutineers.

As a clumsy Firetruckwit with fat fingers, I feel your pain.
Some of their arms fell off, they aren't leaving the repair pile unless I somehow get to play dollies overseas again.
Edit: Really? Firetruck? Stupid censor crap

Yeah, I tried to pin some of the arms to avoid that problem. One issue I had is that Mar's face was poorly cast. I couldn't be bothered to try to fix or resculpt anything, so I just covered most of her face with a bandana, desperado style. Had to try to fix Morland's hair and one of his swords with a bit of greenstuff. Zira has given me the least trouble so far, but I haven't actually finished attaching her arms yet. Hopefully I'll finish up tonight. Was working on Saxon at the same time, he was smooth sailing in comparison. I did sculpt a rock over that head beneath his foot though, and re-profiled his gun barrel a bit.
I just picked up a cordless Dremel tool the other day, and found myself using it to help with assembly; specifically I've been using it to help with pinning, and I also found the engraving bits can help remove some hard-to-get-to mold lines.

Hmm. To be honest I expected a bit more activity in this thread. Did I scare people off with the word "rant"?
Anyway, Zira's arms have been attached successfully. It was a bit fiddly due to the pins, but it worked out in the end. I will say that all three models do have pretty cool poses, so that's nice.
Now I'm just waiting for my Company of Iron stuff and maybe I'll be able to put the models to use.

So I actually got to play CoI over the weekend and I can't picture a scenario now in which I wouldn't want the DSM. 5 boxes is good, their recursion ability lets you fish for cards with better bonuses, which is good, and RFP is insane. It turns 1-4 into death, which alone is worth the price of admission. I need to get mine painted up now.
To your original point though, I remember them being a pain to put together.

Ok, now you've got me all excited. Who should I take with them? I don't have that many solos, but I was thinking of Lanyssa to give them better melee threat range. I'm hoping to be able to rope friends into playing the game; even though they weren't into Warmachine I'm hoping the smaller scale (and perhaps simplicity of not having to deal with the warcaster/warjack dynamicor the different rules for units and solos etc) will make it more accessible. Is that a realistic hope at all?

Definitely. Model activation rather than unit activation makes it super simple, and alternating activations makes it feel less bad to get rolled on your opponent's turn. Also, 6-11 models (in general) means that you really only have to play stuff you like.
I want to also play Blythe and Bull for similar reasons (Take down + boxes + ranged/melee), and Gibbs as your commander seems unreal (tough to avoid dying, stand up next turn and hot meal for 9 boxes back), but I did not play with him yet. Anything that does RFP is really strong though.

What do you guys play the DSM with in CoI? I'm thinking Rockbottom as an Commander, and Sea Dogs to round it out.

Sadly I haven't had a chance to play yet, but at least to start I'm thinking of just running the DSM with a bunch of solos to keep things simple to start off with; either that or with a min unit of Nyss Hunters.

Blythe and Bull and DSM are amazing together. Gibbs is insane as a commander and Sgt. Nick is surprisingly good in CoI. I usually finish it up with Gorman and call it the hateful 8.
