I played in the Champions event at WMW but I lost all three games. That particular event is a bit unusual, though, because at WMW the top players who are in the Invitational play in Champions while the LCQ is going on because they can't play in
that. So I was in over my head in terms of player skill, but you asked about lists, and you're prepping for a much smaller event, so:
Doomy 2 is the strongest of the four casters but he cannot drop into a full gun line, and you will see those played by multiple factions given this roster. I paired him with Ragnor because I figured that in an uncertain meta, Ragnor could maybe use his feat to weather not only guns but the alpha strikes of any casters who seemed likely to really spike damage and timewalks like Magnus 2. I put Ragnor in Band so that he could better deal with opposing infantry lists.
While I did get blown out, all three games were totally winnable, and I can point to specific mistakes that cost me. Considering the caliber of the competition, that is saying a lot. So I think my lists were just fine.
My first list was a slight tweak on Mark Gerow's Doomy 2 build, which is one of the best lists available to our faction. All I did differently was play the Runebearer instead of the second unit of whelps.

This list has tremendous threat ranges and can crack armor very well. It is also about as tricksy as Trolls get, with Overtakes, tramples, and throws to crack open assassination vectors that are not always immediately obvious.
My second list is Ragnor in Band. I am not as confident in this one, but I recall my opponent saying that it was not bad and I do think the game would have gone a lot better if I had gone first and not messed up my feat turn.

Granted, much of this design is that it must be able to deal with infantry swarms at least better than Doomy 2. I could also see pairing this with Calandra or Grissel in SOTN or Band and using that to fight infantry.
