So a minions player I'll admit that when disciples of agony came out I was a little upset but that is not at all what I am here to talk about. I have come to accept it and I am thinking about for casual games at my local LGS picking up some Skorne casters and maybe a unit and just treating it like I am still playing minions. Any advice of which of the casters or units I should grab? I do not plan on spending much on this since I could never include it in my pairing at tourneys but which of the 5 casters do you think run it best/are the most fun?

I have come to accept it and I am thinking about for casual games at my local LGS picking up some Skorne casters and maybe a unit and just treating it like I am still playing minions. Any advice of which of the casters or units I should grab? I do not plan on spending much on this since I could never include it in my pairing at tourneys but which of the 5 casters do you think run it best/are the most fun? Depends on what you want to run. Morg2 is kind of like the best generalist there, since hes got mortality, arc nodes, and can run minion infantry like brigands well. Combine prey, paingiver taskmaster buff and mortality for +6STR on brigands, pretty sweet. not to mention blind to give them an accuracy fixing turn. you'll want paingiver taskmasters if you are running minion infantry. Naaresh will run a swarm of lights like its going out of fashion, or just some heavies. For example if we took a blackhide wrastler and stuck rage, enrage and feat on it, its charging for free + PS 25 on its bite and PS 22 on its claws and ARM 22. you can apply the same +8PS (or +7 and +2 MAT) to a swarm of lights too Morg3 kinda wants at least a unit of nihilators if you want to kill infantry since they are beserk, overtake parry and acrobatics. But he generally appreciates the blind walker. You have to bring your armor cracking with morg3 and let his blind spell + feat do the anti infantry work Morg1 does the naaresh kind of strategy, but his trick is Abuse missiles. +2SPD +2STR on top of whatever animus you want in the combined roster is really nice. Morg1 is also really good at assassinations due to feat + his zap TL:DR Must have: Paingiver beast handlers, paingiver taskmaster if running minion infantry Morghouls are great.

Morghoul2 would be my recommendation. It's a very open theme, but a blindwalker and paingiver beast handlers are kind of mandatory.
If you want mostly beasts, naaresh would be your man. He is the only one that doesn't need a blindwalker. He doesnt add much to minion units.
Morghoul3 doesn't work too well with minion units either, so if youre interested in him, it would mean at least nihlators for berzerk+overtake.
It's a very unsolved list. I'd stay away from Xekaar is all. He is very similar to morghoul 2, as they both cast 1 mortality a round because that's all they can afford. Xekaar might have a better feat by a little, but Morghoul2 has more Def, steady, and way more personal damage.

Here are some example lists. They might even work reasonably well as a list pair (meaning they should work anything aside from Cryx): conflictchamber.com/#c9201b_-0H6P6r6U6U6U6U6U6UjijibF5U5U___-0H3Z6U6Ujijkcv6w6L6LfF0Ofl0Ofl5U5S5SSkorne Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Disciples of Agony (Naaresh 1) Master Ascetic Naaresh [+32] - Agonizer [6] - Archidon [10] - Archidon [10] - Archidon [10] - Archidon [10] - Archidon [10] - Archidon [10] - Battle Boar [7] - Battle Boar [7] Wrong Eye [17] Paingiver Beast Handlers (min) [5] Paingiver Beast Handlers (min) [5] Skorne Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Disciples of Agony (Morghoul 2) Lord Assassin Morghoul [+29] - Archidon [10] - Archidon [10] - Battle Boar [7] - Blind Walker [12] Mortitheurge Willbreaker [0(4)] Paingiver Bloodrunner Master Tormentor [0(4)] Paingiver Task Master [0(3)] Paingiver Task Master [3] Swamp Gobber Chef [1] Farrow Brigands (max) [15] - Farrow Brigand Warlord [4] Farrow Brigands (max) [15] - Farrow Brigand Warlord [4] Paingiver Beast Handlers (min) [5] Paingiver Bloodrunners [9] Paingiver Bloodrunners [9]

For buying only a few models, Morghoul2 is hard to beat. One if my lists with him is basically a mammoth, splatter boar, two max units of brigands+UA, and a taskmaster (with a little filler). Swap out tge Mammoth for road hogs, or a blindwalker and some other stuff, and you're still mostly cooking with bacon.
Outside of Morghoul2, I think you're mostly using one or two minion warbeasts to crank skorne models. Much more expensive. Naaresh with archidon spam and a single battle boar to pass out primal(assisted by a pair of shamans)is one route, although there are plenty others. In any case, it usually means many more skorne purchases.

I like the idea of Shamans+battleboars with Morghoul 1.
With Morghoul 2 the CiD swamphorror looks really interesting. Access to a 4 inch drag could be clutch to get the caster in range of a morghoul 2 blade in the back. Poor mans Proteus...
Morghoul 2 is also one of the two main gun line casters for Skorne due to the feat and mortality being debuffs so as mentioned the Brigand boat works, hell even croaks start getting okay.

I would go for brute spam myself with Primal. They are just so hard to remove, adding Naaresh's feat, and actually making them very dangerous, puts them above Archidons and savages for me.

From the sound of it I may be picking up Morghoul2 and some Paingivers, I think it would be a fun list and would give me a huge step of diversity from my normal minions lists.

let's play CID conflictchamber.com/#c9201b_-0H3Zjijik2k2jgjgjgjgjg7y6w6LjXjXjO5VSkorne Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Disciples of Agony !!! Your army contains CID entries. (Morghoul 2) Lord Assassin Morghoul [+29] - Battle Boar [7] - Battle Boar [7] - Blind Walker [10] - Blind Walker [10] - Boneswarm [7] - Boneswarm [7] - Boneswarm [7] - Boneswarm [7] - Boneswarm [7] Orin Midwinter, Rogue Inquisitor [5] Paingiver Bloodrunner Master Tormentor [0(4)] Paingiver Task Master [3] Boil Master & Spirit Cauldron [5] Boil Master & Spirit Cauldron [5] Gatorman Bokor & Bog Trog Swamp Shamblers [10] Paingiver Beast Handlers (max) [7] The list basically runs off mortality so once you want to go back to minions you can run something similar with Maelock the Dreadbound. I limited the number of Skorne models in the list so if you want more skorne the list could be improved I think. It does really need the Boil Master but I figured it could take a bit to get the models and paint them anyway. All the corpses go to the bokor until you want to deliver Boneswarm then you send it to them and then Morgoul2 assassinates your opponent when it is time to go home. This of course assumes everything works correctly and in my games it never does.

As an aside, welcome to the team. Skorne and Minions have always been the back door to each other as a second faction. I picked up and grew into Gators specifically because Posse and Croaks were awesome in MKII under Skorne. With the low cost of a single warlock and some pgbh, you're going to have the fury management and independent damage crank not found in Minions. A taskmaster grants Tough or damage adjust, with no knockdown, at a cheaper cost than the witch doctor, and sac pawn to boot.
You'll like it in the Empire, I promise. You get accustomed to the flesh hooks quickly.

Boilmaster cauldrons are really sexy to get to include even as pseudo threat extension. they're quite nice!
I also like the idea of the CID swamp horror (just one perhaps) with morg2. his personal threat is already far and adding 1.5" to his fan of shadows and 1" to mercy makes it further. Its not even about doing it, its just about threatening to do it to make the enemy caster play the tiniest bit further back and for infantry/lower arm heavies to fear the flashing blade just a little bit more
