Well he is not our most wanted beast
But what if we drop eyeless sight and gave him the animus: see in the dark, cost 1 self (see frightmare)

I don't think it would help. There's few enough warlocks that could really use the animus, and it's not as generally useful for said warlocks as far strike is. It also further reduces his usefulness as a cheap combat beast, and we already have too many support pieces as it stands.

He’s actually surprisingly good in sr2017. Having a beast with stealth is really useful, and his super low cost means you don’t have to feel too bad if he’s hanging back scoring a zone instead of contributing to the fight. I’ve been using him in my madrak1 list as a fury battery in case the glacier king dies.
His animus is going to be very, very situational on himself, but some casters might find a use for it. However, people will forget he has it, and that time that you use it pull a solo off a flag might just win you a game.
Also, unlike most of the elemental lights, he has 1” reach, which is great, and 3 initials. Throw in free charges against warrior models and he starts to look like a good buy. Plus, if you ever manage to get a crit against a battle engine or colossal, he’s probably made his points back already.
I do agree with you about eyeless sight though, it feels incredibly corner-case. Although, if you ever charge him into a cloud wall, then use his animus to pull a key model into the cloud wall so the rest of your army can charge it, the look on your opponent’s face will be priceless.

He is super legit with Grissel 1. I have played lists with 4 of them and not been sorry. Stealth is a thing for sure. I wish he had pathfinder too, cause then i might be more inclined to include him with other casters.

While definitely not the first light I reach for he's definitely playable in the right situation. As Trollock said he can do impressive things with Grissel1 for his price and generally having a light beast with stealth and 3 initials is not a bad thing. I wish he had either long leash and/or pathfinder but he's still playable with the right warlocks plus he's probably got the coolest looking model of our lights.

Wow, this thread has progressed pretty rapidly from ‘how do we fix the night troll?’ to ‘night troll spam is great’! This sounds really interesting- what does Grissel1 do for them?

Free charge, an extra initial, +2 movement and pathfinder. Plus if she somehow gets calamity off and the night troll gets rage and is under the stone it is hitting at P+S 18 on the claws. A night troll with all the grissel buffing does an average of 30 damage to a khador jack....

I've had good results with Night Trolls in my pre-CID Doomshaper2 PoD lists. They're great for mulching single-wound warrior models with Overtake + Wild Aggression (and Rage if needed), killing up to 6 a turn. They are of course good for being on point, as they are cheap and stealthy, but also because they are often up front, I have used them on feat turn to charge in first and animus to pull desirable targets (that my opponent often thought were just out of my threat range) in closer. Additionally, when I had ADR pairings, I used to play 1 pt under so I could swap them out for an Earthborn when needed, however due to both the point cost reduction of the EBDT and the allowance of 1 pt models, i.e., Gobber Chefs, that is no longer necessary.

While I really would have liked to see the little beastie get extended control range, The Night Troll is legit. Really cheap for a light and 3 initials at MAT 6 makes it solid as is, even without Stealth and its other Buffs. In fact, the NT is one of Trollbloods' better lights.
If you were going to focus on a light that really needs help, take a look at the Impaler...

The problems with the impaler are a heck of a lot more complicated though, because of its presence in the battle box. It would be easy enough to fix but any changes to it have to account for the effects it would have on the rest of the battle box.

If you really want to play a stupid/funny list, spamming night trolls with Doom2 for extreme infantry spam is always a riot. Especially when he's in ADR - two night trolls for an EBDT works in a pinch.

Is Grim1 still in ADR? Then I could put 2x night troll + one gremlin swarm in adr vs my daliah &skarath option
