I've been looking at the new models that are on Warroom now, and I see a lot of interesting stuff. Valka being one of them. It frustrates me a little that he's a Storm of the North exclusive model, as I have BoH list I think would love to have him, and those two lists overlap a little much for me to be comfortable trying to field both in a pairing.
So what do you all think of the Trollkin's latest axe crazy murderer?

He's the most compelling thing I've seen in the faction for company of iron. Feign death and rise and tough should be highly amusing. He also looks pretty darn good for the regular game, which he'd better for six points!

Righteous vengeance, countercharge, retaliatory strike with 8 hit boxes, and x2 weapon master at p+s 12; 14 from cold stone. Plus a few more things I can't remember. Definitely worth the 6 points I would say

Valka's card say he costs 6p, but actually he cost 5p, cos I see no point playing him outside SoTN and he just replaces Runebearer or fellcaller as your free solo. I actually struggle to fit him to my lists, over infantry and beasts while he seems to be so good.

He has lots of good combat power, but he does not do anything essential to a list. Therefore he will have a hard time making lists, because you probably want things like Skaldi, Runebearer or fell caller rather than him. I think all of those three cards are more important, so i guess that in a list where you have 3 free cards, but for some reason do not want one of those three he can make an appearance.
He DOES have magic weapons which is important in SotN since you do not have the normal elder, but i do not think that one solo with magic weapons is enough, so you probably need to bring a sorcerer, and a sorcerer is enough in most cases i think.

I like him well enough he's got a lot of good rules which is compelling but unless you have a strong game to keep him alive he'll probably just get shot off the board. He looks pretty ridiculous for Company of Iron though if you're into that game.

Looking forward to the model, looks-wise. Not particularly excited about his prospects on the 75pt battlefield. I think he'll be decent in Company of Iron, a game in our venue's experiences so far, that allows a lot of models, not utilized in SR play, to shine!

He seems like an auto include freebie in SotN but otherwise I don't think he'll see much play (can he be taken in BoH? I'm assuming not).

Are you sure you will include him in SotN though? I always find myself reaching for fell caller and rune bearer, and then probably skaldi. Im not willing to pay points for either of those models, and im definitely not paying points for Valka, so he sort of always gets left out

That may end up being the case. I was re-jiggering my Madrak1 list this evening into SotN and Valka didn't make the cut (could only get 2 freebies because I wanted the GK/Axer package which requires 16 non-bg points).

I use him to guard the Hooch Hauler or GK. With good positioning, he can Counter Charge the things that charge it. If that's infantry he can maybe kill one before it attacks and block the lane of another. More likely they will just run one in to engage him so he can't CC, but that's one less attack on the battle engine.
And I can confirm that he is a beast in COI.

I'm not even sure how to use him in COI. We don't have any units that easily sit at 14 or 19 points to where you could afford a single 6 point model. I think he could be incredible if there was just some way to squeeze him in.

Yes, any ten point and chronicler or Skinner, who I think will be interesting in CoI. The list that amuses me right now is Valka as Guerilla, max lookouts, min bushwhackers. They'll have a shocking amount of accurate long-range punch, and then Valka, who will run up through forests and cover and be def 16-18 until he commits. It is a 25 point list, but so what?
