I've loved Kryssa from the start and it's nice to see some appreciation for her. I'm currently trying to build a range that can counter-punch/clean up with her feat. For the points, would it be better to go with 2 Bolt Throwers for more shots or a Ravagore for melee power and scather? Arguments can be made for both. Neither animmus is useful. Unless you can trigger swift hunter off a magic spray, but I don't think you can. If you can, does it trigger off each kill because that would be hilarious. Double bolt thrower - more ranged damage and more board control with thunderbolt. Chance knockdown enables melee models. Ravagore - Less turn-by-turn damage output. But, as you mention, far more capable in melee under feat turn. The +3 puts the ravagore into base carni stat range. aside from the sad mat 5. I've run a Ravagore a good deal with Typhon for the hot swap of repo3. Typhon walks forward to spray and then repos back where as the Ravagore shoots and repos forward. Bolt throwers, either unlucky or just low capability, have never gotten quick work off a non-warrior model. I tried using them as light hunters. But I just get unlucky i guess, so I'm more comfortable using them as ranged bullies. I would base my decision on how many other beast you are running and the amount of fury management. If fury is likely to go hot, take the Ravagore. If you have the room, take the bolt throwers.

You should really consider your fury management:
A ravagore needs 2 fury for a fully boosted shot (more if you want to boost blast damage on something, or use its animus) A bolt thrower need three most of the time, because he has to cast snipe to get the range (at least in my games)
So one ravagore vs two bolt trower is 2 fury vs 6 a lot of the time.

Not sure if you are agreeing with me or my point didn't come across as I intended. Yes, the Ravagore is less fury to manage. That's what I meant to convey. Also, if other beasts run hot the Ravagore still has the very capable option of aiming and taking his shot with no necessary fury generation because it has the innate range to do so. But if you have more room for beasts and fury the bolt throwers lend more board presence, mobility, and utility. At the cost of generating that much fury.

Nice write up. I have had a fair amount of success with Kryssa this edition and have been playing her locally as my only warlock for the last two months or so. The list that I have settled on and am currently undefeated with, although that will surely change soon once people get used to it, is as follows.
Legion Army - 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Oracles of Annihilation
(Kryssa 1) Kryssa, Conviction of Everblight [+31]
- Azrael [21]
- Naga Nightlurker [8]
- Neraph [12]
- Neraph [12]
- Neraph [12]
- Neraph [12]
- Seraph [14]
- Succubus [0]
Blighted Nyss Shepherd [1]
Blighted Nyss Shepherd [1]
Blighted Nyss Sorceress & Hellion [0]
The Forsaken [0]
The Forsaken [4]
Blackfrost Shard [9]
I think that it is generally true that Kryssa can work as a combined arms warlock, but this fast moving melee force has skirmished quite well in my experience. BFS help keep damage potential flowing turn-by-turn. Tactical Supremacy usually goes on Azrael, and Cloak of Ash on a leading Neraph or another target as needed. My meta runs a mix of arm skews and some balanced lists of infantry so Forsaken have thrived both from fury management and Blight Shroud. Azrael being a big range pressure piece makes me happy to run Kryssa in Oracles theme and the Neraphs offer a pretty optimal amount of hitting power for points to really leverage the feat. It should be noted that so far this has been played mostly into Circle, Legion and Retribution but it has done well so far. I've found that Neraphs hit acceptably hard on feat turn and between Beatback and Sprint offer some neat movement puzzles. Additionally, I have found it useful to sometimes Slipstream Azrael backwards after shooting in addition to Tactical Supremacy, which can get you an extra turn of ranged work out of him vs long threat ranges such as Hunter's Marked WW Stalkers or jacks with movement buffs.

Themes are the new hotness right now, and Kryssa has the benefit of having a very solid character beast, so that's a saving grace for her. It does involve focusing your build a bit to meet a given theme, but the free points combined with theme benefits gives her a lot to work with.
For Ravens of War, Raiders get ambush - pretty sweet. You lose Typhon and other key heavies, but you can fill in with some fast fliers, and a Naga to help vs buffs. Great against Circle because of their reliance on AD, but can be challenging against dedicated bricks if the feat doesn't go well.
For Children of the Dragon, Azrael gets unyielding, and you get +1 to the starting roll, but it will restrict the list options pretty dramatically, so maybe not the best bet unless you really like Nephilim, or want to spam infantry.
Oracles of Annihilation is fantastic for Kryssa: You get some free points, start with upkeeps out, and a unit gets apparition each turn. I just want to say that the Blackfrost Shard in theme with Kryssa - getting both apparition to improve threat, and reposition to improve survivability - is probably the best version of BFS that we have to offer. It's petty amazing.
This is one I came up with recently, as food for thought:
Theme: Oracles of Annihilation Kryssa, Conviction of Everblight - WB: +31 - Succubus - PC: 4 - Seraph - PC: 14 - Azrael - PC: 21 - Angelius - PC: 17 - Nephilim Bloodseer - PC: 8 - Naga Nightlurker - PC: 8 Blighted Nyss Sorceress & Hellion - PC: 0 The Forsaken - PC: 4 The Forsaken - PC: 4 Spell Martyr - PC: 1 Spell Martyr - PC: 1 Blackfrost Shard - Sevryn, Rhylyss & Vysarr: 9 Blighted Nyss Hex Hunters - Leader & 9 Grunts: 15 - Bayal, Hound of Everblight - PC: 0
This is specialized towards what I was inspired to play with her, so it's more of another take on her than a specific suggestion, but maybe it'll inspire something in you, too.
The BFS I mentioned are amazing with her in Oracles. Hex hunters I really like, but they need defensive tech, and she can give them Cloak of Ash immediately in theme, making their AD with Bayal more valuable (and Bayal is free). The Bloodseer is there to help with the Hex bolts, the BFS magic, the Sorceress spray, and Kryssa's spray, and it can use some helpful animi. Naga is present to work with defensive buffs, and be a solid gun. Sorceress helps hex hunters kill single wound infantry with high ARM, and gives free charges to flying beasts. And the Angelius is there because it generally synergizes well with the other stuff. You could switch the Angelius out for a Scythean, or something, and start twerking the build from there (e.g., maybe at that point the Sorceress is less helpful, so you can see how the changes might cascade into a completely different list).
[Note: This is a slightly-edited version of a conversation on Facebook, but seemed relevant here.]

Hello everyone. Everytime I hear someone talk about my favourite Blighted Ryssovass I come. Kryssa and Children of the Dragon. Special K CotD Why Kryssa with CotD? Azrael exists. Here comes the list KRYSSAPHILIMS Kryssa -Succubus -Nephilim Bloodseer -Nephilim Soldier -Nephilim Soldier -Nephilim Bolt Thrower -Azrael (the great Swaglord) Max Hex Hunters + UA (Free theme model) Min Swordmens Black Frost Shard Nyss Sorcerer and Hellion (Paid) Nyss warlord solo (free theme model) 3 x Blighted Nyss shepherd 2 x Spell Martyr Now the synergy is quite simply. You have to deploy this list in the following way: Hexhunters first with AD (duh) Then every model in the battlegroup and as rearguards the Swordmen. Why the swordmen in the back? Because you do not need them before turn 3/4 Now why this list is scary? Ashen veil on the hex hunters, run with everything and wait for turn 2. Turn 2 mechanics. Previously placed hellion gives free charges to jamming models so the HH can move where they have to. Then the Bloodseer places himself where he has to be and the magic starts. Kryssa Magical Spray. Hellion magical spray. Bayal magical Spray. and finally hex hunters spells. Then you have a def 14/16 unit to screen, and the next turn a Feat to destroy anything that has come close to you. With kiss of lylyth. And if you placed the soldiers correctly the hex hunters screened them. So you now have POW 18 Free Charging Mat 7 models who choose where to land the hit, I love breaking jacks Cortexs/Beast Spirits. (You can heal beasts, but never understimate the unability to heal 4 beast that everycaster has when he needs to use spells) I love how good the Neph Solly are, thanks for the flight Everdad

I like the List lerderk. I'll have to think about it though. As much as the free upkeep is awesome, I really dont care to have a succubus around. it's kinda silly and I use her with other casters, but for some reason I don't really like her with Kryssa. I've been building for maximum precision strike with 2x Soldier 2x warlord and 2x Swordsmen+CA.

yeah they would be. 13 +2 brutal, +3 feat +2 kiss.
I've wanted to run CoD Kryssa since the list I have built would only really lose, without comparable replacement, the Naga. Blessed weapon seems a bit too useful to forsake. But that's really my only hesitation. I try to keep my Kryssa an all comers style and Arcane shield and such are too common to not have an answer to. But If I wanted to sit down and build a pairing I would definitely put Kryssa into CoD and bank on the precision strike. Then I'd make a separate anti-armor list... which now that i think about it my Bethayne CoD list did a huge amount of damage with flank and obliteration. I should do that, double children of the dragon with the least popular casters. I'm sold.

I have played Kryssa in CotD almost exclusively for about two months, If you can feat at the right time she's a great armor answer in addition to a solid all-comers. I would feel better if she was paired with a gunline answer like Thags1 or something.

In COTD there is absolutely no reason not to take beast mistresses and shredders with Kryssa. You have the light warbeasts needed to start flank for shredders. The only downside is that you won't play this into cygnar due to arcane shield. Realistically, you wouldn't play Kryssa into cygnar anyways unless your outing wasn't optimal to begin with.

I agree with Neuty here. The beast mistress is just too good in this list not to include at least one especially when they're free...and of course the spawning vessel to keep her battlegroup filled.

I think a unit of swordsmen is a comparable module. It's more expensive for sure, but I personally like the volume of bodies. I don't feel like my game has been hindered by a lack of beast mistresses.

The beast mistress gives you threat range. Swordsmen are pretty slow 10" threat?
The shredders go 11.5" which is may be best in the list. Expect raptors. I've been thinking of taking archers for the threat range and spewing vessel bodies.
