So I was thinking, often times when I am building a list I start with the exact same battle group and then tweak it as needed to fit the goal of the army but at least for me they all start at the same place. Manticore, Manticore, Griffon, Griffon, Chimera. For me thats where every battle group starts. If I running Vyros1 or 2 fill out the list with more griffons and maybe upgrade one of the manticores to something else but ultimately this is my base line. So I was wondering what is your practices for filling our your battle groups. I have found myself stuck in a pattern and though I feel that it is a decent one there are so many other ways to go about it. Thoughts?

I suppose I begin by asking myself 'what do I want the list to do?'
If my answer is 'I don't know', slot in 2 Manticores just because they're always a decent choice. If the 'cast spells' thing came to mind, slot in at least 1 Chimera, because we tend to have decent casters who can't go in like Butcher3 and live to tell the tale. Generally, if I go 'come at me', that's when I tend to slot in the Griffons and Imperatus, just because I've found they tend to work best in a clump. If I think 'deliver infantry', then Discordia comes to mind pretty hard (she's great on her own, but the fact that she makes things harder to shoot dead is very valued. And of course, brain damage.
Hydras tend to be my go to for sniping, Banshees for control, Sphinxes for melee beatsticks and a neat effect that comes into play occasionally, and the Phoenix if I need a toolbox that can cast spells for me.
I don't tend to think of the Daemon at all (both because I don't own one, and he's 2 points less than Discordia or a Banshee), Moros (never got one, as he's 2 points less than a Sphinx), and Hypnos offers particular answers I never find myself needing all that much anymore (I own him, but Ossyan is still a B tier caster, but he just feels underwhelming now). I run the Aspis occasionally (its a decent 6 point jack), and I have a Gorgon, but don't use it much (seems decent, but I always find myself cutting it for something else).
