Hey guys. As the title states this thread is to turn new light (or I supposed light) on maelok. So he was part of the pair that took 4th at,Adepticon masters. With the new theme to give a built in healing mechanic could this list become a new minion mainstay? Personally I dont know how you crack any armor with it but I suppose arm 20 gators on feat turn is super annoying. Also his feat helps fix the pathfinder problem. What do you guys think?

I played him some more tonight, will get a batrep up in next day or so. It is a solid list, but not without weaknessess. My list does not go as overboard as all the min units and still puts 200+ wounds on the table.
Maelok is back. God help us all.

Maelok is back. God help us all. I wonder, is the Sacral Vault good with him? Cause everything is undead in a Maelok list, and the Vault needs living things.
2 Wrastlers. Rage + Mortality means POW21.

I think maelok is going to be a very solid hordes drop, mortality hurts most of hordes, and the high armor and high box quality of the list is going to make many lists have fits, the recursion is solid and the ability to ignore terrain is as always good. I do believe he might be the future of gators competitively, however I'm curious as to how many posse he needs, I'm thinking three max and Shamblers to sac strike with before and after feat.

So, do you guys think he needs a Blindwalker? I just don't think he has the durability to be on the front lines, and for 12 pounts you get both Shield Guard and Channeling.

A Blindwalker falls into the nice to have, not mandatory category thus far. It can also make the battlegroup rather awkward, points-wise.

Maelock is but a tool to do my bidding... Nonetheless, I will give my impressions.
I'm not 100% sure I can recommend the Blind Walker. He's good at distant target hits, but under theme, where you want to take Maelok for the extra boxes, there's very little in the way of speed buffs. I think Maelok will naturally be very close to the front lines rendering a Blind walker somewhat useless.
Below is my list. It is a bit different to others, since it adds in the croak raiders. I find these pesky frogs handy at getting rid of infantry and dealing damage on medium bases. They've worked well for me, but your mileage may vary.
War Room Army
Minions - Dead faces in the water...
Theme: The Blindwater Congregation 2 / 2 Free Cards 75 / 75 Army
Effigy of Valor - Steamroller Objective
Maelok the Dreadbound - WB: +28 - Blackhide Wrastler - PC: 16 (Battlegroup Points Used: 16) - Blackhide Wrastler - PC: 16 (Battlegroup Points Used: 12) - Blind Walker - PC: 12
Gatorman Witch Doctor - PC: 0 Gatorman Witch Doctor - PC: 4 Totem Hunter - PC: 0
Gatorman Bokor & Bog Trog Swamp Shamblers - Bokor & 9 Grunts: 11 Gatorman Posse (Blindwater) - Leader & 4 Grunts: 17 Gatorman Posse (Blindwater) - Leader & 4 Grunts: 17 Croak Raiders - Leader & 5 Grunts: 10

Double witch doc for that crucial great turn. Also, the Totem Hunter has no business being incorporeal, yet here we are

If you think the blind Walker is somewhat useless why have you taken him in your list lol? Just curious. I was surprised to see that in there.

I was posting very late and was theory crafting with it. Midway through I convinced myself against the blind walker but clearly didn't edit the list to reflect it! Apologies, it was past my bed time! War Room Army Minions - The Dead Marshes Theme: The Blindwater Congregation 2 / 2 Free Cards 75 / 75 Army Maelok the Dreadbound - WB: +28 - Blackhide Wrastler - PC: 16 (Battlegroup Points Used: 16) - Blackhide Wrastler - PC: 16 (Battlegroup Points Used: 12) Wrong Eye - Wrong Eye & Snapjaw: 17 - Snapjaw Gatorman Witch Doctor - PC: 0 Gatorman Witch Doctor - PC: 0 Gatorman Posse (Blindwater) - Leader & 4 Grunts: 17 Gatorman Posse (Blindwater) - Leader & 4 Grunts: 17 Croak Raiders - Leader & 5 Grunts: 10 Croak Raiders - Leader & 5 Grunts: 10 THEME: The Blindwater Congregation --- GENERATED : 03/31/2017 06:46:58 BUILD ID : 2039.17-03-16 So, thinking properly about this, I've put together the above. Rather than focusing on a full grind list, I tend to try to shake things up and bring utility pieces like the croaks.

I'm playing around with this:
Mainly the idea is the ARM20 gators on feat, 22 on one of the units. Bull Snapper is there for Maelok to reach ARM21 under feat so it's possible to commit without too much fear of assassination. It will have trouble with ArmSkew, but that's why we have Carver, Rask and other stuff.
Minion Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] The Blindwater Congregation
(Maelok 1) Maelok the Dreadbound [+28] - Blackhide Wrastler [16] - Blind Walker [12] - Bull Snapper [0] Feralgeist [2] Feralgeist [2] Gatorman Witch Doctor [0] Gatorman Witch Doctor [0] Gobber Tinker [2] Gatorman Posse (max) [17] Gatorman Posse (max) [17] Gatorman Posse (max) [17] Sacral Vault [18]

Sacral vault seems like it will be less helpful since thr majority of your units will be undead.
The blindwalker debate comes down to if you think you will be handing out mortality's and venoms or not.
My meta is ruthless (see atc this year To almost swept it) so without that arc node maelok won't be able to cast without splattering

Sacral vault screams anti synergy, can't collect souls from undead, snacking on posse removes souls from enemies, and while it's a good reliable gun, it's more expensive than a Spitter for a random chance at more shots. I like it with Barnabas in theme, but that is basically as far as I would go, aside from calaban, but eh I think he's better out of theme.

Personally I feel like Maelok does really well with a swamp horror and witch docs. The swamp horror is great for increasing threat range of both Maelok and Wrastler. The Sacral Vault in theme is near useless with everything being undead and personally I'm a fan of the ambushers for the way they can pull things closer to them and play a nice little road block with a witch doc. A I made a list that has what I think makes a solid Maelok list in theme
Maelok The Dread Bound Blackhide Wrastler 16pts Blackhide Wrastler 16pts Swamp horror 14pts 2 Gatormen witch docs Free in theme 2 swamp gobber chefs 2 maxed units of Posse Bokor and swamp Shamblers 5 man and leader Bog Trog Ambushers
It's a solid list to really grind out the opponent and has solid hitting power with the two wrastlers and how the swamp horror gets to a might ARM 17 dropping one dice for damage. It's a very brick kind of army.

What have your ambushers managed to reel in?
