Hello Everyone I am pretty bleh at painting. Its honestly the hardest part of the hobby for me. Finding motivation to sit down and paint, finding inspiration for schemes. All of it just gives me fits Luckily i have been listening to wargaming you-tubers, some theologians, and misc music to try and keep focussed and relaxed while painting...honestly it relieves a lot of stress and my current project has me pretty excited to paint for the first time in my hobby career. I am staring by posting on my progress on my current project: An entire Protectorate army where every knight and warjack, caster has unique paint scheme. the idea is go with a Feudal knights theme. Obviously the non exemplar will all be similar schemes like the plebs they are to represent them being under a specific liege. But I want the army to look like a band of individuals that stand out on their own Eventually Ill start working on free-handing some heraldry but I am gonna have to practice a ton for that haha. I finally finished my cinerators (well finished is a loose term, I still need to do some more detailing but they are table top ready for now i need to move on to a different unit for motivational purposes) I went pretty basic on them, no exceptional schemes or freehanded symbols. Though my next batch of cinerators will be working with checkered and patterned schemes. I am looking for feedback, painting advice and technique advice or links to painting videos. But honestly this thread is just to keep me painting and keep me accountable haha here are the cinerators: Edit: thanks to Soul Samurai for teaching me his picture fu! Hi Macdaddy! I'm glad you've made the leap and started to paint your forces. Painting every model differently sounds a bit... chaotic. I would recommend painting every unit different, but generally a unit looks better and is much easier to deal with on the tabletop (an important concern) when all members of the unit have the same paint scheme, so I would advise you to do it that way. The photo you have linked to is quite small and poorly lit so I'm afraid I can't offer much feedback on the actual painting. What I can say is that you have some very nice colour combinations: I love the purple (second from left) and blue (fourth from left), and the white one in the middle is a good take on the typical Protectorate scheme. However, all five of them together look a touch chaotic, again I recommend picking one scheme for the whole unit. Personally my pick would be the blue one. To embed images you have a couple of options: to embed an image hosted on another site you can click on the small image icon on the left side of the toolbar in the full text editor: Alternately you can click on the Add Attachment button on the very top right of the toolbar, which will allow you to select an image from your hard drive (you have to click "insert" in the popup box after uploading the image in order to actually insert it into the text). However, it only displays it as a thumbnail link this way. If you are replying to a post you have to click on "reply" on the top left of the text box to enter the full editor: I tried to link to the image from your post but it wouldn't display in my preview, which makes me think that there may be a problem linking to google drive images? Instead I shall download the image then upload it to the blog: Now here's a little trick: after posting this message I opened the image in a new tab, then clicked on "edit" on the top right of the post to edit the message and embedded the full image back into the text:

I really appreciate your help with the pictures!
I kind of want the army to be chaotic. Have you ever played warhammer fantasy? There is a faction in there called Bretonia. Basically a bunch of feudal knights who own their own land, do thier own thing, manage their own peasants. But they all worship the same god and serve the same King. I was going for that image in my mind. I want it to look like a big random band of vibrantly colored knights running around. The only unifying factor should be who am attacking haha. I want the army to not look unified i scheme, but rather, in theme. If that makes any sense.
I am hoping that painting my bases different colors will help distinguish units. One unit of cinerators will be red bases, the other will be black or Gold bases (probably gold to be more distinguished). I plan on doing this for all my units, (except for the non knights exemplar because they will be unified color to represent them serving a particular Lord/Noble.) Once I start collecting and painting flameguard I plan on keeping them all in the same color scheme to represent "the churches army" where the knights exemplar are more like "the peoples army"
I also will be adding a few characters throughout the army, with the generic protectorate paint scheme to represent the involvement of the greater government/ecclesiarchy in conflict. Kind of like showing support, while making sure this roaming band of knights remembers who they ultimately serve.

I was worried about the actual chaos of not being able to tell at a glance what unit a model is from (not as big a problem in a game of squarebases stacked together in formations), but the different base colours should solve that problem.
Personally I don't enjoy painting multiple models in the same colour scheme (I get bored easily), so I understand the appeal of painting every model differently. Have at it! Just... take larger pictures under better lighting please!
Edit: just looked back at your original post and realized that you've added better pictures there. Cool.
One more thing you might want to try: if you go into the "BBCode" tab (underneath the text area in the full text editor), go to the attachments, and set thumbnail="0" it will hide the smaller thumbnail, since you don't need it anymore once you've embedded the full sized image.

So update: working on Knights Exemplar. Painting all the little details and not messing up is so difficult with my shaky hands haha. I hope to have both units done by this weekend! Then I’ll be working on the UA’s and my errants. I’ll post pictures as soon as I get them finished up
