...Can't you just take a 3 by 3 and just make a border around it to make the rumble mat? That's what we do at my house. Yes i could. But that would be giving up to the enemy. In all seriousness work and school are super busy so any hobby time spent needs to get prioritized heavily. And making a border to play a bad format of war machine is very low on the list of priorities

I interpreted the CoI project as a business strategy to sell more models on the cheap. Tinker a few rules for adaptation, little ground up development. Community will beta-test it for you, and release. Fortunately, this was a great idea for the WMH gaming community as well. We all have models we'd love to put on the table but for some reason choose not to. I imagine most players see units or models in other factions that they like, but aren't willing to do a full buy-in. CoI is precisely what was needes for these players. I agree, Company of Iron is nothing but pure win from a business standpoint, and since Privateer Press is in the business to sell gaming miniatures I think it is smart on their part. No, it actually makes a lot of sense. If they made a competition format for CoI you would see the competitive gamers fracture into 3 distinct camps: those who play SR only, those who play CoI competitively only, and those who would play both competitively. The loss of those who play CoI competitively only (and those who ditch an SR tournament to go to a CoI tournament) might be significant enough to collapse the SR tournament scene. If CoI gains enough traction the SR tournament scene might see several players fracture off anyway.

Is company of iron played a 30x30 rumble board? Yeah, it is. I have started work on a themed board. I am inclined to go with Llael Resistance as that theme. A bombed-out city is almost cliche for a skirmish game, but maybe that would be easier for my first full board.

You could always spruce up the urban decay with a nice bombed out park or transition into a nearby bombed out fields if you want to add some greenery, maybe even a pond?

Yeah I started making my farrow board ("Fort Hogwash"), then a couple hours in it occurred to me that I wasn't entirely sure that 30x30 was the final size. That information was surprisingly absent from most of their promotional materials

Privateer Press has posted an Insider about Company of Iron detailing a couple of Retribution example forces: privateerpress.com/community/privateer-insider/insider-10-23-2017This one has for the 20 point example a full squad of Dawnguard Invictors (remember them?) with command attachment and then for the 25 point example a full squad of Legion of Everblight Nyss Legionnaires Ryssovass Defenders (sorry) and a couple of solos. More are to follow.

Seems like a great place to play with friends. Main wmh can be filled with a lot of extreme competitiveness. A format that competitive players Turn their nose up at is great for many people i know.
Im okay with competitive games but ive seen too many friends drop the game bec ause they felt like they werent learning and were getting destroyed bottom of 2 every game after all their time investment.
I expect CoI will outshine main wmh for many

I have a few ideas for armies (mostly with wolf sworn and blackclads) but I am interested to see how pagani thinks with circle in CoI. Been playing this is not a test a lot lately though, so that has been fulfilling my skirmish/narrative fix Boy is that game fun!

Any word on a rules summary of some sort? I'm itching to get started, as I want to woo local players back from Guildball. I've got a max Reeves squadron + War Wolf + Reeve Hunter + ?? ready to go and want to know if I need to tweak it at all.

I actually ordered and received all the cards when they were up on Drive thru RPG by accident. Pretty funny actually.
