Hello ! Menoth/Khador player here. I recently gained interest into circle as I wanted to see how the other side lived and get a better understanding of Hordes mechanics. I wanted to pick your brain on what to get for my first 75pts and without going bankrupt.  Is the MK3 battle box a good place to start? Was the MK2 one better? What do I get to build on one of those? Thank you ! |

The way the game works right now, you should choose a theme list and go for it. There will be a large release of theme forces for all factions and some changes to the old ones. Read them and go from there.
I'm not sure the current starters and armoy boxes are what you need.

The mk3 battlebox is a great value, so is the army box (especially so if you convert the rotterhorns to scarsfells). I feel like we're firmly entering theme-machine today, so the most flexible theme is probably Call of the Wild. If you're buying new, I'd recommend the battlebox, army box, two blackclad wayfarers, a druid wilder, and a unit of farrow brigands + farrow brigand warlord. If you magnetize the warpwolves and convert the rotterhorns* to scarsfells by adding a hood, you should be able to field good armies for Kaya1, Kaya2, Kaya3, Baldur1, Tanith, Kromac2, and Kromac1. I expect you to use all of those models. Of those, I think Baldur1, Kromac1, and Kaya3 have the most potential to be competitive lists (like 20 themes will drop today (which is super unusual), so I can't speak with confidence). Here is a Baldur1 list that I think will be competitively viable (that I haven't tested yet). | Circle Army - 74 / 75 points

I should mention that most of the Call lists I see don't have brigands (or some other infantry), but I don't see how that works. We're not Legion, so we're not going to win with an alphastrike. I think we need something to hold the far flank, so we don't instantly lose on scenario. Brigands look like the best option to me, since all our buffs are FF. So the brigands are more speculative. Everything else I recommended you are guaranteed to use regularly in Call lists.

Thank you ! Tanith is a really good circle caster so if you want to start with a basic battlebox I recommend the MK3 battlebox with tanith. The Kromac 2 Starter Force is actually in the Not yet released theme Call of the wild and that theme force looks pretty solid. I personally like that Starter box a lot. Tanith in 75 starting with the BB would probably end up looking like this: (I would not build with a specific theme in mind) Tanith Pureblood Gorax Argus Wyrd Wyrd Loki 2 Sentry Stone 2 Gallows Grove Sifting Stones Max Reeves with UA That would be around 230 directly from PP. Or around 15% less at most other providers so really if you use ebay, discount games, mini market, probably less than 200 for the whole 75 point list. Loki is pretty pricey so you could always replace him with a standard warpwolf kit. reeves are also pricey another possible warpwolf or satyr substitution could be made there. Also rotterhorns ARE garbage compared to scarsfells  |

Rotterhorns aren't awful. They're at least 80% a scarsfell. Pagani has played with the new themes, and we haven't. It's possible some themes will make victim stat infantry a competitive thing that rotterhorns would love to screech at.

I mean it lack stealth, an extra higher pow initial, its animus is not very good and it lacks tracker which is actually situationally a big deal. It should probably be 6 points and/or gain initial to be worth it. Razorwings are way better at threshing dudes. I would actually pay points for them in current lists as a cheap trample bot and free amuck is awesome and the sucker can sweep accross the board with Pow 16 tramples under primal. I think that bird is the under appreciated one. Honestly if all the birds gained a beak attack (and the rotterhorn gained something else) I think you would see more bird diversity. |

I like pagani. I just guarantee he is the best player on the dev team and he probably stomps them with circle all the time which explains why our faction is so...meh. |

Not a specific list but here's a small core of models that can form into a reasonable army (everything in the Mk3 Battlebox is in here so it's a good buy):
one each of the non-character Warpwolves
one Gorax
one Wild Argus
one or two Woldwyrds
any full ten-man unit* + CA
one or two units of Shifting Stones
one or two units of Sentry Stones
two Gallows Groves
*I'd probably encourage Reeves or Bloodtrackers over Wolves as a first unit, but really all of them are good.

More then most factions what you want to play really influences what you should buy. Circle is similar to mercs in that we are kind of several mini factions loosely bundled into one.
One of our themes, and one of our casters, is limited to (nearly) exclusively construct beasts and 2 other themes are (nearly) exclusively living beasts. Our tharn models (approximately 1/3 of our infantry) can be taken in only one theme. Our wolf sworn (also about 1/3 of our infantry) can only be in one theme. The Death wolves character unit are the exception because they can be in either of those exclusive themes. The blackclad units are more versatile and can be in multiple themes to some degree. I highly recommend at least one blackclad wayfarer. The shifting stones and gallows groves are universally available and are worth having in just about any list. Oddly, due to the way minions are available now most of them are more universal then faction units.
As for beasts if you go living you probably want at least one wild argus and each of the non-character warpwolves. Magnetizing the warpwolf kit is a fairly easy and economic route to take with them. If you like living beasts getting the starter box is a really solid move. If you go construct beasts (wolds) many changes are in the pipeline to improve them and probably the best wold unit is the woldwyrd which work best with 2+ and they are fairly inexpensive to buy.
I really encourage you to proxy and play to find what you like before buying anything. The warlock you choose has a huge impact on your build.

I also steer away from doubling up on warbeasts usually because you give up animus options. My suggestions might be: Week 1 Standard starter box. Week 2 Scarsfell griffon (I think this week is 10 points and the Shadowhorn costs 12) which leaves you with 2 spare points. Week 3 At this point you may want to start considering if you want to get models for a certain theme. I don't know if you can use themes in Journeyman leagues though. If your interested in the Wild hunt theme then I suggest either a max unit of Reeves of Oroboros leaving you 1 spare point (these guys are great with Tanith's spell affliction) or a min unit of Reeves and a min unit of Wolves of Oroboros (they gain ambush from the theme). If you like the Call of the wild theme then nows the time to get another warbeast and some support. Blackclad wayfarers or druids are each 4 points (possibly free in theme) and leave you enough points to pick up one of our economy heavy satyrs, leaving you one free point. The Gnarlhorn works well with Tanith's spell admonition and has a good animus, the Shadowhorn also has a good animus (the theme makes animi cheaper) and has movement jank. Both are pillowfisted but Tanith helps with that. Week 4 This is a big week and you should pick up a heavy or 2 light warbeasts here. Loki is bonded to Tanith and is a very good warbeast but he is costly (both monetarily and in points). Any of the other warpwolves are an excellent choice and will cost a little less money but still are points heavy. I recommend magnetizing them (satyrs too). Another way to go would be to pick up 2 lights instead. The Razorwing griffon is a tramplebot, the moonhound makes shooting better. Neither hits terribly hard though. If you have spare points get a Shifting Stones unit. They are cheap and very handy support. Don't bother with the ua. If you went Wild Hunt you should try and find the points to get the Wolves ua here and maybe max out the Reeves or get their ua as well. If you went Call of the Wild and don't have either the Wilder or at least one Blackclad wayfarer you should get them at this point. Week 5 I would suggest from here you season to personal taste. Some things that work well for Tanith are: Swampgobbers bellows crew (for her and Loki's prowl). Lanyssa Rysell (for the extra hunters mark in any theme). Gallows groves (cheap and good for most casters). For Wild Hunt lists I recommend one or more warwolves for the sic 'em (that's a solo, try putting scything touch on them) and Wolf Lord Morraig. The Death Wolves are also good. For the Call of the Wild lists you will want at least 2 solos with hunter's mark and the Wilder and one or more Shifting stones (to manage fury). The gobber chef is also good for managing fury if you have warrior models you don't mind feeding to your beasts. Warpwolf Stalkers with the sprint animus are good. I hope this helps. They updated the journeyman leagues rules. It's 15 points every week now.
Tanith is fun and all, but in a journeyman league you need a caster who can answer melee and shooting. Tanith can't answer shooting. (To be fair, no circle caster can answer both completely, but Tanith is no help vs shooting)
