Did the tournament this weekend, and had fun, mostly because the guys I played against were really cool. First guy played Legion Twins and annihilated me. Second guy was hilarious - he played Gaspy1 and I made a real game of it before getting assassinated. Game three I had a bye and played against the guy running the tournament, who was also very cool. He claims he wasn't going easy on me, but somehow I won that one. I'll type up details and post more soon. Nice! The tournament I was going to go to ended up being cancelled because they only gave two weeks notice to people to come and they couldn't get enough interest. It is great how all of the players I've met so far in this game have been totally rad. WmH seems to draw the best kind of nerds instead of basement trolls (40K) and just plain a-holes/internet trolls (MTG).

Reading these are great. You made loads of mistakes (Like, runewood can't give pathfinder to a jack. ha!) You over panicked and paid too much attention to the clock and were much too nervous! Fantastic! I told you that you'd have your ass kicked and you didn't disappoint. And, man, that's par for the course. that's literally everyone's first tournament who has never played one before. That's GREAT! I hope you had fun. You can't do worse than you did this time. So get out there and do it again! Also, blog more. good stuff.

Fantastic stuff! Looks like you learned a ton and I bet you'll make huge leaps in your play the next time you go! Having to suffer the consequences of mistakes in a tournament/serious game can really make you pick up the habits you want to develop in the game. I've found that casual play where you make mistakes and allow a lot of take-backs makes you fall into bad habits and forget rules quite a bit more than just suffering the consequences and learning for the next game. It has made me be quite a bit harder on myself even in casual games. Tim Banky talked about this recently on Line of Sight and I completely agree with him. You have to play your games like you are on hard mode, but allow your opponent to play as easy as they want and allow them as much leeway as they want, as that helps force you to play your best game and get the most value out of it.
