I've played this matchup a couple weeks ago and it was rough. ARM 22 is nice until you get hit by a POW 23 S&M with wraithbane. There's still a game to be played of course, but I found you can't rely on your tankiness too much. I think the croaks could help here. If you can somehow Mortality the death knell and shoot it down with croaks, the beasts' armor gets much more manageable afterwards. Good luck!

Had a game with Maelok vs Child today. Maelok won on scenario bottom of 3. Croaks killed a Cage Rager, a S&M and 2 crabbits. Lost 1 croak. Croaks are awesome and they really mess up his play as he barely has any shooting so I outthreat him.
Did get 2 more games in, one with JagaJaga and one with Barnabas2, both in WWFF into the Child. Jaga gave away the Dracodile and still managed a really tight game but lost on scenario at round 7. Spitters with Enliven is crazy good. Kwaak is my new idol. Barnabas2 stood with DEF17 in Star Crossed and still got killed by 2 S&M with FURY3...shame really. Love Barnabas2 though, as well as Jaga, they're clearly competing for the choice of my second list.

Such blasphemy re: Rask. If all you're using him for is as a Fury + Rage bot and his feat, then he sure is boring. But with his gun and Veil of Mists, he has so many options and fun shit he can do. He always contributes in my games, and the lists I have for him often have several moving parts and are a blast to play I played him all through 2016 and mk3 up until this summer, so I know how good he is and how versatile. I suppose I'm just sick of him totally reasonable

I am picking up Barny2 today and one thing I havent really been able to do is figure out a list for him. i have a few but none that really click. What did you end up using for him?

I'm thinking this:
Minion Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Will Work for Food
(Barnabas 2) Barnabas, Lord of Blood [+23] - Blind Walker [10] - Boneswarm [7] - Dracodile [36] - Gatorman Soul Slave [0(5)] Bog Trog Mist Speaker [0(4)] Bone Shrine [2] Swamp Gobber Chef [1] Swamp Gobber River Raider [4] Wrong Eye [17] Boil Master & Spirit Cauldron [5] Farrow Valkyries [8] Farrow Valkyries [8]
Or this before the Boil Master arrives, but something of a mix between these two at least.
Minion Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Will Work for Food
(Barnabas 2) Barnabas, Lord of Blood [+23] - Blind Walker [10] - Boneswarm [7] - Bull Snapper [5] - Dracodile [36] - Gatorman Soul Slave [0(5)] Bog Trog Mist Speaker [0(4)] Bone Shrine [2] Swamp Gobber Chef [1] Swamp Gobber River Raider [4] Thrullg [0(5)] Wrong Eye [17] Farrow Valkyries [8] Farrow Valkyries [8]
I really like the Dracodile so will have to give him a few more games and see how he does, so far he's been great, except when I give him away to the opponent without getting anything in return (happened once).

Won my first tournament today. It was sweet. I did get a BYE in the first round but hey, I would have much rather have had a game.
Casters were Maelok and Arkadius, ended up only playing Maelok for 3 games straight though.

GAME 1 - MAELOK VS MADRAK1 SCENARIO - SPREAD THE NET I go first and run everything up like crazy. Pic after my first turn. He feats and runs everything up. My Croaks with help of Mortality kill 4 Champions in the right Champions unit. He was shocked by the damage. This is precisely the reason I love Croaks instead of a fourth unit of Posse. The left unit of Posse jam and contest zone. I love 2" melee weapons when he's all clumped together. Pic after my turn 2. I score 2 at the end of his turn. I try to kill everything in the round zone (1 scribe, 1 mauler and 1 warder) but I flunk all attack rolls because of Even Ground and at the end of my turn I score another 2 so it's 4-0 in my favor. He tries his best to cleae his home zone and succeeds, he scores 1, I score 2 so 6-1 to me bottom of 3.

GAME 2 - MAELOK VS WANDERER SCENARIO - BREAKDOWN I go first and run. Pic after my first. He runs and positions. Witchwood targets a posse (outside of Maeloks ctrl) and slaps my other posse member and does one damage. I charge the witchwood but flunk my attacks and it's left alive. I make a crucial mistake and stand still and aim with Croaks who then cannot see any targets because their friends are covering LoS...I am not used to shooting small bases... But I do kill a bunch of mortality-affected Dreadrots. I feat to avoid those pesky murder crows who preyed one of my Posse units. His murder crows come in and leave 2 Posse on 1 box, they snack this up during the game. After my turn 3 and this turn I seriously killed almost nothing because rolling 7s to hit (with rerolls) in Star Crossed is impossible. I forget to take photographs here because time is short and fast turns are happening. I'm winning on attrition and I score 1-0 top of 4th. I win the game when he clocks out and I have 1,50min on my clock. Time for the finals!

FINALS - MAELOK VS VINDICTUS SCENARIO - THE PIT II Deployment, I choose to go first. He has all the bazillion weapon master attacks and can really destroy my models so I need to run and jam him out of scenario. I need Death Ride first two turns no doubt. He deploys his AD Errants 3" back from his deployment line, why? Because Croaks...that's why. Croaks are amazing. He runs everything up and feats, so no charges for me, or ranged attacks so Croaks run in and jam along with Gators. Feat is up. He completely jammed himself with the Errants in the front so if I jam those his whole army is jammed. Who needs to charge? I score 1 in my zone bottom of 2. After my turn 3 I have killed a bunch of infantry and few cavalry models as well. I score 2-0 and keep jamming him out of zones. Wrastler threw the light Warjack away from the left zone and caused 9 damage on the throw, like a baws! HOLY CRAP...he kills almost every single Posse and even succeeds getting some running infantry into my right zone. I kill the contesting models in the right zone, kill the jack in the left zone and the objective and I score 5-0 and this wins me the tournament! Overall, Maelok is AWESOME. I really think he's the best I can play in our faction. He handles everything but a lot of high arm, like arm 21+ en masse is a problem. So that's why Arkadius is there, might replace him with something else in the future though. Don't quite know what yet though. I'm very much looking forward to the arrival of my soul slave as this will make the list a lot better. I'll probably throw out the Totem Hunter for the Soul Slave, I think. It didn't do very much this tournament anyway. Next tournament is 24th of February. Need to get the Maelok list fully painted until then!

Congrats for the win!
I´n also highly interested in Maelok, therefore I like to ask some questions: - How important is that Blindwalker? I´m thinking about different builds with Maelok, but none of these include a Blindwalker. I simply can´t pay 10 points for a pillow fisted arc node. - Was the Bone Shrine worth it? I´ve never had a deeper look at it because, well, immovable pieces? But on your pictures it seems that 2 of them are able to cover a lot of boardspace regarding the casting of Mortality.

BlindWalker is amazing. It CAN be an arc node if I need it to, usually it's a cheap beast taking zones, throwing other large based models out of zones, boosting headbuts into something and then charging it with Posse or shooting it with Croaks. For 10p it's hard not to justify, AND it has shield guard for that really hard annoying shot coming from somewhere.
Bone Shrine usually scores flags or contests 2 zones. Maelok has 7 Fury. Without a Soul Slave you have to pay 1 to upkeep Soul Harvester on a Posse unit, that gives you 6 remaining, 3 of those are to cast Death Pact so another 3 remain which means you cannot boost Mortality. This is when the Bone Shrine comes into play. Also, with Soul Harvester and Bone Shrine Maelok had 9-10 Fury sometimes, that's quite sweet. Since he usually stands behind an obstruction or LoS blocker with ARM21+ he doesn't need to camp much. For 2 points I consider the Bone Shrine a godsent, just being an ARM20 solo that contests is pretty great.

Nice batreps thanks! I've had a couple of Maelok friendly games so far and my thoughts are he's superb caster that asks lots of questions of your opponent. I've had a bit of trouble with Fire on the gators, I believe they go back to ARM16 on continuous fire damage rolls with the unyielding changes and that can hurt. A local player has a bones list with 3 wold wights which means I'd probably not put Maelok down but then I reach for Dr A

On the Blindwalker: Throw Rage on him and him on a target with Mortality. Suddenly he's POW 19 and wrecks heavies just fine, but still costs only 10pts.

Yes, well, with Rage almost anything will be hard hitting. Though with a second Wrastler and Mortality, you´re bringing the hurt even more. For the cost of one solo and an arc node. I think I have to get my own experiences. Yet it´s a difficult decision what model I should build out of that Wrastler / Blind Walker Boxed Set that is lying around here.
