Stormblades are Doom Reavers who are slower and hit less hard. If they got some quality of life changes then maybe they would be worth playing. How exactly are they anything like Doomreavers? They have 1 less SPD and DEF but + 1 ARM + a mini-feat for armour, the also have 1 less melee range and don't have advanced deployment. They not only have ranged attacks in general, but those are also fairly high powered, especially with the right support and they have Assault, but they don't have Tough, nor Berserk and Spellward. To me they seem nothing alike, except that they are both melee units. Alright, feel free to pick any other unit. Storm Blades will in general will look equal to bad ones and good vs terrible ones.

I agree, Stormblades are solidly powerful, just slow and without many good ways to get pathfinder in theme. This is a Trencher thread, though. Maybe we could take this stormnoun discussion elsewhere. YOU GET THE TITLE TOO! THIS IS UNFAIR REEE.

Min Bane Warriors: Literally the same statline except Bane Warriors have -1 MAT but +1 STR. Their effective damage is very close, 16.5 with one attack vs one P+S 15 and one P+S 14. Same cost. Verdict: Equal. Min Dawnguard Sentinels: Same statline again but -1 RAT for sentinels, not a factor. Again with the effective pow, see Bane Warriors entry. Their special rules however promote a more defensive style allowing them to survive longer as long as you don't have high pow blasts or electric damage. Seeing as there is a lot of those however.... Verdict: Equal. I'd do more but I have to get ready for work.

Both of those units have a better threat much of the time. And that would be my only complaint about Storm Blades, they have minimal access to Pathfinder in theme. My preferred fix is simple. Give the Stormblade Captain Solo back his relentless charge aura for Storm Knights. It made him useful in Mk2, and with it gone he is largely overcosted. Stormblades wreck stuff, but they have less innate delivery tech than the other WM units mentioned.

Like I said, they need quality of life changes. Especially since in those 2 comparisons you missed out in extremely important factors like prowl, vengeance and wall of steel.

And the ridiculous 'if the leader model gets RFP they never get the +2 damage bonus ever again"

Not to mention about a barrage of extra POW 12+2 ranged attacks before the charge attack. "barrage" = 2 to 11 shots depend on the remaining troopers. Fixed for you.

Llael is happy to have pathfinding stormdoodz. Ash/Mac/Gastonne all have solid delivery tools for them on top of the impermeable trencher shuffle.

Only if your opponent has made some spectacular errors. It's like that with everything though. You say other units have advantages over Stormblades, which is of course true, but then discount the advantages of Stormblades (more attacks, more durability) because they need "quality of life changes" (which I'm not necessarily arguing) and then say that they're not that good because opponents can kill them?
