I'm trying to add "ice" to my models. I'm looking for that nice, crystaline type of ice, so my thought was...
Borax crystals!
If I glue pipe-cleaner to the model in the location I want, I can grow the crystals directly onto the models. Or, just grow crystals, and glue them down (haven't tried this yet, not sure about solubility of crystals in glue...)
I know that after crystal growth/application, they'll need to be sealed (no issue), then treated appropriately, but my primary question is this:
Is there an easier way to get what I'm looking for? I know I'm very good at over-complicating things, but I haven't really seen much of an alternative that gives good results in such a short amount of time (it only takes 2-3hrs for a super-solution to begin crystallization).
Help!

I know that there are clear plastic or resin crystal available from some online retailers, for example these esper crystals (I believe they are made by Ninja Division, though I've bought them off the CoolMiniOrNot store):

You could use clear casting material to cast some crystal shapes and use that as your ice crystals. Just add some paint on the edges and boom
