Thanks for the batrep! It´s always nice to read or watch your batreps.
ould you like to explain your opinion? I really love the model of MacKay and more often than not I wanted to order it, but reading through her rules doesn´t really impress me. In your opinion, what are her strenghts?
She feels like she is on the top end of casters who do work by themselves, consistently turn by turn. 4 guns, a boosted damage feat, Reposition, and she is durable at Arm 19, 36 HP. Idk that her spell list is all that, and she is beatable by the right list, but she is a murderess all on her own before adding in any army assistance. Thanks. I heard something similar before, but can´t believe that it´s strong. Maybe I should have a 2nd glance on her. I´ve never run casters that "do work by themselves", maybe I should start that experience right now.
One problem I see with her spells is that "army assistance" seems quite low. I have to have a second look...

So I get that Targ allowed you to actually get work out of the spray in this game (rather than just Blinding one Battle Engine and having Alyce promptly Eyeless Sight it in return), but on the flipside this also highlighted how much more Sturm can do personally with a Soul Slave on the field, since you'd have actually been able to get Deceleration in play on your Turn 2. The Blind was probably more valuable in this specific match-up, of course, but I'll be interested to see if the extra spray continues to be the better option.

I mean, strong is relative. She is a shooty lady, so if you play an anti-shooty army then... The general theory is that WM is built on piece trading. If you have a caster who comes free who can trade up for something that costs points, then you free up your other stuff that costs points to either trade better or go do other things. The trick is usually in the not dying part, and how that is balanced against army support abilities.

While true, I am not sure this game is super fair to either Targ or the Soul Slave because of how badly I played that turn. And like...woah. Mire needed to be TK'd up to put down a cloud to Stealth Skarath. Skarath needed to be TK'd up to spray down the Dragon's Breath to remove them......but they are immune to his spray. And the light removed the cloud and stealth. So all that was basically to accomplish pretty literally nothing. I mean, I am the dumbs on this one.

I'm trying to run a scientific experiment here but my assistant keeps pointing out how incompetent he is and undermining the results It is something I've been trying to be cognizant of in my recent games. As much as I would love to, I can't really swap out the Mist Speaker because of a few critical match-ups I want Sturm and Drang to be able to play into, and Brun and Lug have their own reasons for replacing Rorsh and Brine as well, but the Targ-Soul Slave swap is one I'm open to considering. I've had a few games now where I've tried to be mindful and consider what my alternative options would be if I had an Ancillary Attack available. It's come up a few times into lists like Primal Terrors or double Battle Engine lists, but boy does it feel bad to consider how much flexibility it would cost me. The Soul Slave is consistently a lifesaver in my games in terms of how much more work I can get out of Sturm's spell list. Mind you I literally just got home from a game where I would not have been able to clear a zone without the extra TK, so I'm certainly in a positive Soul Slave sorta mood. The Rat 5 unboosted spray just makes me wish Arkadius had found some way to give Drang a dose of Adrenalin. The biggest Australian Warmachine convention of the year is coming up in about three weeks though so I'll need to make a call soon.

I mean at this point, I would make the call for Soul Slave given the number of games you have under your belt. If it works, why change, you know?
But for me with my sample size of one, getting seduced by that wiley and handsome one-eyed weaner is just too good. Also I am actually using him for a change, which is a side bonus? Traditionally I do love Ancillary Attack on colossals coming from PoM, where you don't want some random model jamming them up that is difficult to get to due to base size and angles. And multi blind sprays, delicious. And you can spray across while engaged in order to clear out other charge lanes.
Maybe a scientific way would be how many double BE lists and PT is there in the meta, vs how many not and does that occurrence happen often enough to justify the change? I still would suspect not.
