Now that the PG program is coming to a close (sadly), I figure this is as good a time as any for me to try and step up at my FLGS. I'd like to run a demo game for them, and bring new life to my withering meta.
Of course, I already know how to play wmh, and I've played my share of bb games. My question is to our population of PGs if there are any special methods for running a demo game. Or, is there any advice you could give me, and the many other people who want to start participating? Any wisdom on the matter, or good ways to explain the rules to beginners in a short time frame?

From my experience, a few points to note:
1) Always figure out what the player's inclination is; hobbyist, casual or competitive gamer? Recall what excites you the most from that perspective and discuss using that language/mindset.
- I recently recruited a player who I found was more inclined towards the gaming aspect. As I pitched him on Warmachine, I discussed much on how the game rewards tactical thinking handsomely, the synergistic possibilities, and also how easily accessible the game can be.
2) Keep it simple. I can't stress this enough and it is not easy.
- Explain what the stats mean on the card first, then dive in to a 0pt battlegroup game straight. Teach him the basics as you go along. 1st is for moving/running. 2nd is for basic attacks. 3rd turn onwards is for how to use Focus/Fury for boosting/spells/etc. You don't want to overwhelm the player. If the situation permits, you can introduce Power Attacks. I usually save these for another game though.
3) I encourage subsequent games to be 0 pt, building up slowly to a 25 or 35 pt game.
- There's no point in rushing him to get into a 50-75pt game but if he insist, it's his choice.
4) Encourage him to paint.
- Play it painted.
5) Let him make the decisions. It's okay to suggest, but don't go overboard.
- Try to minimise outside interference because it is likely the outside interference will end up "playing the game for him".

A nice tip I've heard is when you're playing a demo game, do something cool (like slamming a warjack or something) and narrate it to form the story of the game. But do so in a way that your caster/an important model is exposed, which gives you a perfect segue to explaining charge mechanics and/or an assassination win.

Some great advice here!
I will definitely preface my demos with asking what the player wants out of the game.
Mr. Melorian makes some good points about battle boxes, and his opinions on journeyman leagues parallels my own experiences. I didn't start out in a journeyman, and I don't think my meta has retained a single player who did. Are there better organized events for beginners?

Step One: Ask the company if you can help demo the game. Step Two: Sue the company when they don't provide compensation that was never offered nor agreed upon.
Oh, wait, that's Magic: The Gathering, apparently.
For Warmachine, I'd say Tekanan has good suggestions.
