I haven't played a huge amount of Mk3, less than a dozen games at this point. I'm still playing my old factions to figure out which one I want to play right now. I played a game down at the local store with a bunch of models I bought several years ago and then never played with, as well as some new stuff.
My list was:
Grissel2
Dire Troll Mauler
Dire Troll Bomber
Full Fenns + UA
Max Krielstone
War Wagon
Janissa
Horgle w/ Pyre
Fell Caller Hero
He was running Nemo. I knew exactly what to expect from him because Nemo is the caster I usually run with my Cygnar.
His List was:
Theme: Storm Division
Nemo1
Squire
Dynamo
Firefly x2
Stormblades
Max Storm Lances
Storm Tower
Storm Strider
Jakes w/ Stormclad
Scenario: Mosh Pit
This shot is after our first turns and the only good pic I took of the battle. I went first and moved everything up at top speed, forgetting to power the KSB. He did the same.
Next turn I moved everything up and shot the right firefly with the pyre. Fennblades charge a ridiculous distance and engage his front force. Grissel feats. He killed most of my fennblades but I passed over half the tough checks. Stormlances kill my war wagon, because I have never used it and deployed poorly. Nemo energized the 4 focus Dynamo out of a fennblade's melee reach and took a free strike. I rolled really high and took out the cortex on an undamaged dynamo!
On my next turn I kill Dynamo with the mauler. Grissel and the bomber gang up on the storm lances and kill all five. We're basically brawling with each other in the mosh pit at this point. A firefly nearly kills my bomber in melee, that was actually cool to watch, he rolled really well. Nemo moved up onto the hill to feat and takes the bomber down to almost nothing with that plus his gun. Stormclad kills the mauler, jakes moves up to kill a fennblade. I just keep passing my tough rolls.
On the last turn I see an opening. I clear a path through the stormblades with Horgle before Janissa moves left through the forest to make a hill. Grissel steps onto the hill and starts blasting Nemo on the other hill with her fell blasts. I missed the first one and forgot to roll to deviate, whoops. I hit the next two and rolled average. The fell caller uses his fell blast to hurt nemo a little more. Realizing I only have one hope, the bomber moves out of melee with the firefly. The firefly leaves him with just enough hp to finish off Nemo. Fus-roh-BOOM!
Thoughts on this game:
It was a very fun game and I definitely plan to run more Grissel in the future. I'm going to fine tune my list a little. The only things I think are mandatory with Grissel are the bomber and Janissa. That hill is very good. I definitely deployed poorly, I didn't take into account that my side of the board had worse terrain because I was going first. The war wagon was used especially badly, but it was the first time and the board wasn't good for it.
The fennblades were ace though, they really did exactly what I hoped they would do. Fennblades charge further than almost any ranged weapon. With deflection up on feat turn they survived a lot of electroleaps without a krielstone. It helps when you pass all your tough checks, I haven't lost my touch I guess!
