So I have a local 75pt steamroller coming up here in September and as we don't know if our other themes will be out by that point in September I am preparing a winds of death list as part of my pairing. When I have run Winds in the past it has done rather well but often losses on scenario very quickly as the list does not have any good things to contest with so I am looking for advice on how to better run the list to avoid loosing the scenario.
PSA for anyone commenting on this threat, I do not own any Siege Animantrax's nor will I be buying one for this tournament so please don't suggest adding them to the list. I know they are good but I simply wont be able to get them in time of this event.
I am opting to run Hexy1 in this mainly because he feat is one giant turn of RFP and I know that there will be atleast one ghost fleet player coming as well as an Irusk1 (4+ tough check) list coming. Also Parasite lets your ranged assets tear though the enemy list Swiss cheese.

The main idea is to have the Krea escorting the Slingers or the Reivers to make them hard to deal with at range (15/15 def stats is pretty good I hear) while the cannoneers focus fire to bring down what ever heavies they can see. Soulwards give magic and eyeless sight to the cannoneers to make sure they can keep firing. In a pinch Death March on the slingers lets them take care of light infantry in melee if they get charged (or atleast have a chance to do something).
How far up the board should I be playing this, is it even able to compete with the new scenario's?

I'd switch a cannoneer for a pair of Brutes. With everything else in your list wanting to stay back out of threat ranges, it's really nice to have something that excels at not dying when it's in enemy threat ranges. In your list only the Slingers will want to be in the scenario zones. Their defense stat isn't bad for how cheap they are, but they're not exactly going to last.
With swift hunter the cannoneers will be in better positions than without it, but without rush and not being very tanky for their points, you don't want them really eating charges either.
Another big gun is good, but having two brutes give all your other guns an extra turn to shoot and not lose on scenario is better.

Shaman might help you kill solos camping flags. Not sure how to fit them into the list though.

So scenario is very much a question of how live is it? Not all are created equal. You don't want to drop anything that hangs back into spread the net for instance, I'd be somewhat hesitant to drop WoD into it regardless of matchup. I don't know how doable this is for you but here's how I would change your list.

You lose the defense buff of the Krea but that's ok. The enemy should have to put his energy into killing slingers while your Reivers stay safe. The Archidon gives you a soul slave target, a good one, and something that can move to contest zones. The Raider is almost as good against heavies as the Cannoneer at almost half the price while being more mobile. The Sentinel gives you forward board presence from a heavy plus an aoe that will deny infantry models movement. The free flayers more than make up any difference in firepower. A catapult would do just as well if you only have one flayer. This is somewhat live in zones and has better firepower overall I think.

Thanks for all the good feedback guys! Based on what you have said I have slightly revised my list.
Hexy1
-Cannoneer
-Cannoneer
-Krea
-Cyclopes Brute
-Cyclopes Shaman
The rest of the list is the same after that and comes in at 74 points.
So I am trying to split the difference between all the alternatives that were suggested. While one brute will not do will stopping the entire enemy advance I am hoping that it will slow down things enough that I can do another round of shooting. The shaman can craft talisman for a 12" parasite/Obliterate threat or be another Range 14 pow 12 magic gun which into ghost fleet should help to keep any incorporeal solo's at bay.
Thoughts?

Dropping one Dakar and one Soulward could get the second Brute. Thats just if you feel like it. You have good list there

The Dakar I could see dropping though that's the loss of a weapon master pow15 gun vs a heavy with parasite on it, however the soulwards I feel I have to keep in the list as eyeless sight and magic weapons in the current meta are worth their weight in gold in my opinion.

I have had some success with one of my favorite bad models, the catapult crew. With slingers and a Dakar, they can hit heavies and are usually straight dice. Granted, this has been because I don't own the cannon crew. Anyone have any luck with catapults or see any merit in them?

If several buffs come together I can get some work out of them but it never feels like it's worth 5 points. Granted in theme there aren't many other free options that rival them but I can't help but find myself comparing them to other artillery. Their rat is so low that they have trouble even hitting heavies and aoe 4 makes it feel like you should be aiming for drifts but burst fire does almost nothing vs most infantry. Even if you get a drifts over a heavy pow 10 isn't doing much. It's designed to want to damage heavies but is better at hitting infantry but worse but it's unique rule doesn't help kill them. It's a great example of modern skornergy, especially compared to the more specialized crews of other factions. |

I still prefer Flayer Cannons, if just because multiple POW 18 shots is statistically better than 1 pow 21 shot. It depends. The Flayer Cannons are more raw power, and in this list they're better I think. But the Catapults do things the cannons can't. Not least of which is stay safer and target objectives with near impunity.

Yeah that is one thing, I have never actually lost a catapult. They get to sit there and lob shots at things all day. Some times that still doesn't justify the points. I'm gonna try them out with a deadeye boost and see how it sits.
