Manglers are great. They're far more adept at killing heavies unaided than nomads are. They do not however offer nearly as much arm&boxes/pt (2 manglers for 30, 3 nomads for 33); if you're relying on your heavies to eat the alpha (say with damiano's arm buff) there's a clear case to be made for nomads, but otherwise they're quite evenly balanced with each other.

100% agreed. I always make room for both in my lists. They both kinda fill different roles despite their massive similarities. I'm much happier to trade a Nomad than a Mangler, but they can't ignore a Nomad either.

Sure, they're good. Don't get me wrong. But 2 manglers is 3 points cheaper than 3 Nomads. And in a Magnus2 list, that's one less Escorted Unyielding powered up heavy. Charging matters for a turn, maybe two. 2 manglers get one more attack on the charge turn than 3 nomads (if you boost nothing), and after that are tied for attacks/armor, with only a slight edge in dmg (pow+2 on the off weapon) to make up for being 30 boxes of Arm 21 repairable construct down.
Again, not saying 2 manglers is bad, just saying that with a caster that has battlegroup wide jack buffs, I will find 3 extra points for triple nomads every time.

My issue is that I don't own 3 Nomads (though I definitely should. I have so many kitbash ideas for them)

...I may be up to six at this point. Plus my Gallant which is built off of a metal nomad.

I may have built my Nomads off of cygnar chassis...and my Gallant off of a Menoth one because it makes me happy.

Played Magnus 2 in champions at NOVA this weekend with galleon for the first time since i pulled gallant out to see how my irregulars theme will look when it goes live. My first reactions are its bonkers good. In SR17 with tons of terrain and live scenarion you can stradle him between 2 zones and contest/score and reel in heavies they try to tow in the zone. With a LOS blocking terrain in the center its amazing to b2b the galleon with a house or a forest and let magnus cozy up behind to feat. Its also really fun to charge and kill whatevever jack they send in to kill it. Its also cool when the oposing caster uses the oposite side of the house to hide and you feat to left and right and they can't move except straight backwards. It's going to have to take some practice but im excited to get into theme soon. Im playing gaston tommorrow in some CID games and one list im considering testing is magnus2 irregulars with 4 units and 4 manglers. After watching elara2 launch 3 units of halbs across a table enough this weekend i feel like having 4 manglers at the midline top of 1 to thresh away ignoring shield wall seems like a nice thing to try. Planning a super fast jam strategy with 4 AM manglers, idrians, 2 units of kayazy and AH to get the 4th AM then solos and Magnus/renegade trailing behind to clean up what makes it through then feating turn3 2 jam out of zones forever. I think with advance move you dont even need to put up escort if you go first just run to project a further feat. Turn 2 cast escort pop feat and fail a charge and you're good to go. Anything that advances more than 8" out of deployment eats 4 mangler thresher charges a volley of idrian charges and 2 units of elimnators to block paths into zones. Ill post details of my games after i get some sleep.

Mind posting your list. Hopefully we get irregulers in warroom soon as it will make list building easier.

Mind posting your list. Hopefully we get irregulers in warroom soon as it will make list building easier. For list building I highly recommend conflictchamber which gets those prerelease themes out quick. Only thing we're actually missing from isotope's list is 3 free solos of choice; Mags2+4xmangler+renegade+2xeliminators+A&H+idrians(taking the UA free) is 75pts. Based on isotope's other posts I assume that starts with double ogrun bokurs, then probably Eyriss1 or one of the other matchup changing solos

Played Gaston with Magnus2 into a Midas list he was testing Valkyries in Thornfall. List worked as I expected... HOWEVER... he happened to bring the biggest weakness to the list. AMBUSH. I went first and just run everything up the board ( didn't even put up escort, just ran). Turn 2 I put up escort and failed a charge into the back of a house to hide/be central on the board. Gaston had stayed back out of charge threat range on everything, leaving nothing toed into the zone. I ran at him with Idrians and 3 Manglers, engaging everything except for some valkyries on his flank behind a beast. My last mangler got into his rectangle zone to kill objective on top of 3. because he had an ambush unit I had to hold back my eliminators. I had one unit in each zone facing the table edges with Eiryss, AH central and renegade toeing my zone facing the table edge too. he ambushed in on the side with his zone to toe 2 in and charge some of my idrians jamming his stuff. He kills like 2 with the ambush guys. Because I had to hold back eliminators He was able to run the unit of not engaged valkyries into the zone on my side to contest. He threw one of my heavies into the one engaging his caster which pushed hutchuck into the 3rd zone on displacement. Without the mistake of placing my 2 heavies a little too close together to allow the throw to knock down both and get hutchuck into zone and ambush I would have scored 3 on bottom of 2 ON HIS TURN. Next turn I clear my zone and his, also killing objective and popping feat. The game probably ends here if he didn't have ambush.I intentionally threw away my entire army to jam him up top of 2. Against someone without a crap ton of blast damage for eliminators and without ambush this list will cause some serious headaches. Since this was CID we didn't play on the clock but Gaston thinks he would have lost to me on clock had we been playing with one. My turn 2 was literally just run everything so like 3 min turn 1, 3 min turn 2 then my turn 3 I had to kill 2 ambush guys and 3 valkyries. so My clock at end of my 3rd turn would probably be at like 49 minutes to his maybe 15 with me sitting at 4 CP and him at 0. He made a comeback and won the game since my entire design of the list was to just throw everything at him and jam for essentially 2 feat turns. I'll have to test this list out again against someone without ambush. Other things to maybe look out for are things with parry, ghost walk, etc.

Played Magnus2 into Dreamer today and WOAH, he's just awesome. This was my frist official game with him in the Irregulars theme and wow did he do well.
My Grymkin opponent killed 2 models, sadly one of them was Magnus. I killed Cage Rager, Skin and Moans, Death Knell, 2 Rattlers and a bunch of crabbits as well as some infantry.
I got a little too aggressive with Magnus and he got a skin and moans in the face.
But overall is list did very Very Well on attrition, however, incorporeal is a problem, even if Orin did kill 2 gremlin swarms himself.
I ran this list:
(Magnus 2) Magnus the Warlord [+28] - Freebooter [9] - Galleon [39] - Mangler [15] - Mangler [15] - Mangler [15] - Renegade [10] - Reinholdt, Gobber Speculator [0(4)] Eiryss, Mage Hunter of Ios [0(7)] Orin Midwinter, Rogue Inquisitor [0(5)] Ragman [0(4)]
