Im looking to start magnus 2. Was wondering what people are running competitively as there is little info on the internet. Very few blogs, bat reps, youtube videoes. What models synergize, how does he play, what units and solos work well? Theme? He looks like a jack heavy caster...
My thought process is telling me these models might be solid as a baseline.
Manglers Nomads Freebooter Renegades Galleon
Lend me your sage advice. Thanks again.

I play Magnus2 almost exclusively, and so far, this is the list I run:
Magnus2 -Nomad -Nomad -Mangler -Buccaneer -Renegade -Freebooter -Freebooter Orin (Free) Kell Trenchers + UA + 3 WA
This list, so far, has done me some really solid work. I've come to love Freebooters because, instead of killing opponent's heavies, you simply throw them around and use the feat + cloud wall to essentially deny your opponent a turn. Buccaneer serves double purpose of knocking down models for Freebooters and knocking down Magnus for Feign Death. You can branch towards a more damage based route by dropping a freebooter and a WA for a Nomad instead. Or, you can drop both Freebooters for a Mangler and throw in another Renegade instead of a Buccaneer. So far I had the best luck with the above list, and if you can manage to fit in one more Renegade for knock down shots, then go right ahead. Just remember, with cloud walls, feat, and manipulation of grab and smash, your objective with Magnus isn't necessarily to kill opponent heavies, but to put them in terrible positions and net scenarios.

I think you can't go wrong with Magnus2, a many warjacks as you have, plus a few key solos (I like Lanyssa, Kell, Orin, Meg, and the latter 3 will work for kingmakers).
I'd avoid Galleon since many of his abilities scale across the battlegroup, so more jacks = better. He probably only needs a single renegade too.
However I do like Gallant with bullet dodger, that thing suddenly takes a lot of work to destroy between high armour, high def and dodge moves.

I used to run Gallant with him but have removed him since he wont be allowed in the new theme. I put Galleon in the list instead. A spped 7 unyielding Galleon is nothing to laugh at. Drag in a heavy, kill it then feat to stop any retaliation.

This is what I'm looking at for when the theme goes live. [Theme] The Irregulars (Pre-release)
!!! You are using a pre-release theme.
(Magnus 2) Magnus the Warlord [+28] - Galleon [39] - Mangler [15] - Mangler [15] - Renegade [10] - Sylys Wyshnalyrr, The Seeker [0(4)] Anastasia di Bray [0(3)] Orin Midwinter, Rogue Inquisitor [0(5)] Idrian Skirmishers (max) [15] - Idrian Skirmisher Chieftain & Guide [0(5)] Lady Aiyana & Master Holt [8]

Similar to Boxy, I've posted this list around here a couple of times, but I love playing it:
Mercenary Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] The Kingmaker's Army
(Magnus 2) Magnus the Warlord [+28] - Buccaneer [6] - Buccaneer [6] - Freebooter [9] - Freebooter [9] - Nomad [11] - Nomad [11] - Renegade [10] - Renegade [10] - Madelyn Corbeau, Ordic Courtesan [4] Orin Midwinter, Rogue Inquisitor [0(5)] Trencher Infantry (max) [16] - Trencher Infantry Officer & Sniper [5] - Trencher Infantry Rifle Grenadier (3) [6]

I get facerolled by the other local merc player's Mags2 Galleon/kingmaker list which has won him tournaments; it is absolutely a viable option. Isotope is totally on the money here; speed+unyeilding+calamity+keeping it safe via feat is quite a lot of support for the thing. When a galleon and renegade on are on the field he's got a scary ranged assassination option that adds a lot of flexibility to his game plan.

Currently in Champions format Kreoss1 is a thing... it's nice to be able to hide behind a Galleon for feat.

Galleon is nuts and frankly, I am not sold on ever having more than one Mangler in a list. Between the galleon's guns and the trenchers, how much more mass infantry killing do you need?
