Even though Ashlynn is my favorite warcaster I am little annoyed that she is going through CID, as she is a very average warcaster; sure, she could use a little boost but so could half of the warcasters in the game. I've won local tournaments using her and plenty of casual games, so she's far from awful.
Constance, on the other hand, is a legit terrible warcaster, at least in Mercenaries. You can win games with her but most of her spells and abilities either do not much or nothing at all. She needs the help way more than Ashlynn.
Same thing with, say, Steelhead Cavalry (awful), Vanguards (not awful but obviously overpriced), and Savio (does he even do anything?).

I've had success with Calvary... it just requires that you play with Damiano, and have your order of activation down 100%. Since Damiano isn't my favorite caster... I haven't played the list much, but when I have they've never under preformed. Though I do agree with Constance... in mercs she's not good, and in Cygnar she's alright. I've made a pretty mean Cygnar list with her, but what bums me out the most is she doesn't work well with precursors. I mean they just are so bad, and she'd rather have stormblade infantry.

ashlynn is way weaker than blaize. blaize runs a solid infantry brick. ashlynn does squat except upkeep 2 spells, camp 2 and pick 1 of 10 things to do with the last couple. dey picked the right one. vanguards just got pathfinder so lets see what they do for ash. she might make them better wait and see

I'm glad you have success with her, but that doesn't change the fact that Ashlyn is wildly sub-par.

And for the record - that is a pretty crappy policy on CID. Defeats the whole purpose. This is what I was referring to regarding my meta and CID.

I made the suggestion in my feedback that thw theme gives wacasters a benifit. Either a field marshal or a ability. I suggested field marshal sprint or resourceful since those have a "guerrilla" fighter kind of feel to them.

Well with the new changes to the theme making the outside faction units llaelese this is what I would like to try:
(MacBain 1) Drake MacBain [+30] - Galleon [39] - Mangler [15] - Mangler [15] Major Harrison Gibbs [0(4)] Ragman [0(4)] Stormblade Infantry [10] - Stormblade Infantry Officer & Standard [5] Trencher Infantry (max) [16] - Trencher Infantry Officer & Sniper [5]
OR
(MacBain 1) Drake MacBain [+30] - Galleon [39] - Mangler [15] - Mangler [15] Major Harrison Gibbs [0(4)] Ragman [0(4)] Stormblade Infantry [10] - Stormblade Infantry Officer & Standard [5] - Stormblade Infantry Storm Gunner (3) [6] Trencher Infantry (min) [10] - Trencher Infantry Officer & Sniper [5]
Basically the idea is a rolling cloud wall with repo 3" on the trenchers to back out of clouds to screen the stormblades/manglers on one flank and a failsafe galleon with ragman on his but guarding the other. Feat turn you minifeat(for no knockdown) the stormblades and assault them in , this way they don't have to worry about standing up next turn.

Merc changes for the non CID folks: Ash gains Vet leader (llaelese) Heightenedref>Chosen Ground (Battlegroup gets no kd and pathfinder in control) Viva! No more character units. The out of faction units gain [llaelese] and therefore pathfinder as well
Gastonne: in dev talk! Testing two possible changes:
Option one: Lifebound becomes a RNG6 spell that affects target warrior model/unit. It keeps its current effect giving Crosse2 the soul of any model that is destroyed in the unit, and the entire unit becoming shield guards.
Option two: Remove the stealth portion of this feat and replace it with a clause that makes every warrior model currently in his control area affected by Life Bound for one round, making all warrior models in his control area Shield Guards and giving him the Soul. Leave Life Bound as it currently is.

I played something similar with Crosse on the weekend. I really love Trenchers with Stormblades, and the Galleon projects a lot of presence. Holy crap, the repo3 will be AMAZING. Not to mention, Stormblades with built in pathfinder is just beautiful. Mercs will run Cygnar's units better than they can! Good thing I play both.

Ashlynn seems to have turned into a powerhouse over the last couple of weeks. I have an unhealthy obsession with her alternate sculpt so whipped this up to test:
Mercenary Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Llaelese Resistance (CID)
!!! Your army contains CID entries. !!! You are using a pre-release theme.
(Ashlynn 1) Ashlynn D'Elyse [+29] - Nomad [11] - Nomad [11] - Nomad [11] - Madelyn Corbeau, Ordic Courtesan [0(4)] Anastasia di Bray [3] Gobber Tinker [2] Gobber Tinker [2] Gorman di Wulfe, Rogue Alchemist [0(4)] Major Harrison Gibbs [0(4)] Ragman [4] Rutger Shaw, Professional Adventurer [4] Taryn di la Rovissi, Llaelese Gun Mage [0(5)] Thorn Gun Mages [9] Thorn Gun Mages [9] Trencher Infantry (max) [16] - Trencher Infantry Officer & Sniper [0(5)] Trencher Long Gunners (max) [18] - Trencher Long Gunner Officer [4]
Rolling 0 Focus cloudwall is way too good to pass up on. Then we take Trencher Long Gunners. Their UA grants them the insane benefits of Granted: Precision Fire allowing them to re-roll ranged attack DAMAGE rolls and Tactics: Marksman so they get to choose the column that damage goes to for jacks and beasts. Even on turns they don't aim for two shots a big CRA is POW21 with re-rolls for damage. It's trivial to snipe out a Cortex or Spirit just about every turn. The Long Gunners would also be Llaelese so after dishing out the hurt they can Reposition out of range of retaliation even assuming that the cloud wall isn't enough to protect them. Oh and since they get the Llaelese tag they're effectively RAT7 before the aiming bonus from Ashlynn's Veteran Leader so they can absolutely murder infantry as well.
The list isn't a slouch in melee either. Ragman helps the Nomads do heavy lifting. Gorman can Black Oil or Rust as needed for either an accuracy or damage buff. The Thorn Gun Mages can repeatedly Thunderbolt threatening models back or give them Both Barrels to deal decent damage. Taryn can chip in as well with Brutal Damage.
That's before we even consider what Ashlynn brings to the list. She now hands out Pathfinder to her entire battlegroup as long as they stay in her control with Chosen Ground.
If this goes through CID unchanged I think there's a good chance that Ashlynn becomes one of the competitively played Merc casters.
EDIT: Thinking about cutting some solos and seeing if I can fit Gastonne1 with a Vanguard into the list. It already has tons of guns so pushing the skew even further and adding a Shield Guard might be worth exploring.

If you're looking for a shield guard just give Rutger a jack. IIRC his drive gives his marshalled jack shield guard.

In theme, Vanguard gets Pathfinder and (until it is fixed) +1 attack. At the same cost of Rutger and a Talon, it's not necessarily a better choice, but it's starting to get close.

But Whiskey already had Rutger in his list and was looking for a (more) shield guards. So you don't count Rutger a second time in terms of cost to his list.

Absolutely, but we're cutting something either way since the list is at 75. Just wanted to mention that the two packages are a little bit more even in this theme than normally.
