My take on Captain Bartolo Montador: I almost always come up with a variant color scheme for my miniatures, but Broadsides Bart is a rare exception: I couldn't think of anything that I preferred over the Studio colors. Piratical Reinholdt (he's bloody famous, y'know): The hat brim and epulates (sp?) are scratch-made from epoxy.

My Mariner: The seaweed is made from thick string covered with tattered bits of glue-saturated toilet paper. The sea shell clinging to its' shoulder came from a bag of teeny-tiny seashells I bought at a craft store years ago for a different project.

My Buccaneer: I didn't like the dragged net, so I sawed it off and replaced it with one made from wireform mesh. The hardest part proved to be repositioning the arm. Here are just over half of my Sea Dog Crew (all I have 100% painted): You'll notice that there a lot of minor conversions. I hate having obvious duplicates in a unit- reminds me of playing with green plastic Army Men when I was a kid... When I get all of them (and my Press Gangers) completely painted, I'll post some side-by-side pics to show the changes.

No Bart army is complete without... a Galleon! I've nicknamed him "Old Thunderguts"... A closer look at the base (I didn't notice that the spray varnish had 'fogged' on the fallen mast until I started taking these pics; I guess I'll have to re-do that part): The bodies are Revenant cannon crewmen. I started buying this army late in MkII, when Bart's Theme Force allowed you to exceed the normal allowance of Deck Guns, so I bought a Revenant Cannon to add variety. I thought I could modify the crew to use as Sea Dogs, but it turns out that they are tiny! When I was looking for things to decorate the Galleon's base, it occured to me that their small size would be beneficial- enhancing the impression of the Galleon's massive size.

The Reinhold mods and the seaweed on your jacks are subtle but clever and well executed, the whole thing comes together really nicely. Well done!

I apologize for not commenting on these the first time I looked at the thread, but I didn't really have anything to say, the painting of the miniatures is outstanding! The yellow on the bases is a little too bright for me, it pulls attention away from the miniatures. And the minis are too beautiful to have the focus drawn away from them.

The yellow on the bases is a little too bright for me, it pulls attention away from the miniatures. I guess can see that, but since there is no uniform color scheme to 'tie together' this rag-tag army, I felt that a bold base scheme would serve that purpose. Quartered base lips used to be more common a couple years ago, and they always reminded me of compasses, so I thought they would be a good fit for a nautical army. At least there's no chance that I'll mistake one of my Privateers for a Merc taken by an opponent...

Eh it helps that all the provateers have it. A little 'brazen uniformity', so to speak.
