Well you need a fair few. He needs to sucker those shots off somewhere.

Veil doesn't really help deliver the Kayazy for backstab unless they don't charge. It's good for clutch pathfinder on them or eliminators though.
Of course backstab Eliminators are great, but it means they need to be fairly close to Malakov. I find the positioning is the problem here.
His feat is also not that difficult to counter once your opponent starts to think about it.

I disagree massively. How are people countering his feat so easily?
Does everybody just have swarms of speed 7 reach 2 stuff that also denies viel of mist?
Heck I have used swarms to my advantage by then killing them all with vent steams and tramples.
Not everything in his kit is about using throat slit. And people get so caught up on failing to get it off they miss the rest of his great kit.

Oh, add some counter charge somewhere and it becomes even more problematic trying to surround jacks. I also don't get the constant focus on backstab. Just take assassins with an Irusk (Irusk2 protects them better) and stick Battlelust on them. Not as accurate, but assassins are accurate anyway. I feel you want some cavalry models for triggering Fighting Dirty. Pre-themes, my lists started with double drakhun. Great for Suckering low POW shots to (and you almost certainly have some mechaniks around), have counter charge to stop folk trying to surround jacks and can get boosted MAT8 for knocking things over. They're a big reason why I'm looking forward to Malakov2 in the MoW theme. Based on this, you can get good cavalry in Legion of Steel, so that's tempting. You always want a kodiak in my opinion so that you can stick down two 4" AoEs (Tactical Supremacy on the kodiak to duck back behind its cloud). A ranged jack is good for keeping Escort going too, so I normally have a destroyer in there. The greylord theme has Fenris for triggering Fighting Dirty, plus the clouds are fairly good for protecting reavers, especially in SR17 due to terrain requirements. But I think the MoW theme will let him shine. That seems to have become some random ramblings, sorry! Cheers, Dave

I think the MoW theme will let him shine. I'm thinking about that too. MoW STs for (repairable) sucker targets, Drakhun for all the reasons mentioned. Malakov2 gives MoW STs two of the things they want simultaneously (speed boost and pathfinder - better than Irusk2 can do). But no damage or ARM boosts, so jacks will still be quite important.

Yeah, I also think mow theme will be perfect there. It has all the needed infantry pieces (cavalry, shieldwall dudes, dudes with reach for backstab) and Seers on top.
LegoS has all the necessary infantry, but doesn't provide Seers. Kayazi in Jaws don't work that well with him surprisingly. He doesn't improve them much, since they already have stealth and Backstab. WGK gives everyone sac pawn so why even bother with Malakov.
I also have hopes for koldun theme, he will like Outriders a lot.

One of the things I really like about Malakov2 is that he really gels with the two types of warriors with whom he has any meaningful interaction in his fluff introduction (Rites of Passage) - he associates with the Kayazy and has a friend becoming an officer in the Men of War. If that was intentional design on the part of PP, it's a really nice interaction between fluff and rules.
