I'm going to give initial impressions rather than a batrep with no pictures, it just seems like a better idea. I played a game with a friend of mine playing Dr. Arkadius Thursday.
My list was dark menagerie.
2 pairs of crabbits
2 rattlers
2 gorehounds
1 cage rager
4 free single crabitts
frightmare
2 gremlins swarms
2 units of dread rots
glimmer imp
karianna rose
I initially thought king of nothing was going to be a teleporting ashes to ashes bot, and thats how I wrote this list. My plan was to abuse his 6 point armor swing with light beasts to make them cheap heavy equivelants, use the dread rots for sands of fate and sometimes getting some pow 14 weapon master charges. He's a really strange caster.
So I was sort of correct, the rattlers at pow 19 equivalent were extremely effective. The crabbits dying on trump arcana turn did some sweet faux ashes to ashes work and were actually pretty good. Leaving crabbits around the king pretty much made him invincible to everything except magic damage (which was prevented with the ruin arcana since Doc A has a lot of upkeeps). I charged a forced evo pig with 4 rots and a rattler and failed to kill it but I did forget I had phantom hunter, and I couldn't run the glimmer imp into range because I had locked him behind the rots. But my opponent was able to focus down my troops, which the king really needs for sands of fate. In the end I ended up winning on scenario,raeks.. I mean gorehounds, walking through buildings is good no matter what caster they're under, and mine killed quite a few brigands. But I was overall unhappy with the list. My opponent was able to kill all 20 dread rots, which ended up basically immobilizing the king, and if he had primal shocked a few more times, I think I would've lost my warlock.
I've read a few batreps for him and I've always been disspointed when people weren't using the battlegroup to trigger out of activation spells intentionally.. I managed to do the exact same thing in this game though. About the best thing I managed was leaving crabbits around the king and teleporting him away when one of them got killed. I think this is his most important ability since you can even use it on your own turn with free strikes, but I didn't manage to use it well on my first game.. what can I say the guy is hard to play.
I've written a list in bump since, I think I'll try that for my next KoN game (I'm not getting a whole lot of grym games because I'm like 3 spots away from qualifying WMW right now with khador and I gotta keep going with them for the present), but I'll write up another batrep when I get a chance to try the new list. It's basically got 40 troops and some recursion, so i don't think king is going to run out of sands targets, but I might run out of battlegroup. I was saddened as I was writing it to realize the medium bases and up are the only thing that give a fury after they die, so no 8 crabbit lists for me (this list has 4). I might be fooling myself, but I've been playing this game a while now and I think the bump list is going to be more satisfying. My overall strategy is going to be using him as a 4 armor swing (maybe 2 def swing) caster with a cloud wall, which is a niche job that doesnt seem to exist at the moment. Things like pow 17 murder crows, and pow 13 5 dice charge trapper kin might be really cool, we shall see.
