I copied your signature from the PP site. I hope that's okay, I wanted to display some uniformity and solidarity over the new site!

Buttons are a bit more distinct and eye catching then plain links and the more people see it the more likely they are to check it out.

One of my posts was deleted today for a very curious reason.
"A list of PP-approved fan sites is in the works, once it's up feel free to suggest additions."
I don't remember exactly what the post was, but the only site I've been linking and recommending has been this one. Has anyone else been hit with this or have any more info? Obviously it's too early to read too much into it, but if pp is trying to control or endorse what sites people want to use, that could be problematic.

It could be problematic, but it also won't matter if we get the word out on places like the facebooks and reddit, and Val seemed to have no issue with it when I spoke to her. If I need to, I'll try to talk to those of the team going to Adepticon when I'm there.

Yeah some of my posts directing people to this site did not get approved by the moderator.

Interesting. There was also a straight-up rude moderator post threatening locking a PP thread that was quite constructively discussing external options such as Lormahordes. Not sure if he was taking it upon himself to be jerky and appear stern on behalf of PP, or if that's what they really want.
I just left. :/

"A list of PP-approved fan sites is in the works, once it's up feel free to suggest additions." PP-approved fan sites? So their forums stipulate you must take your chatter off to third party hosts, but really only these third party hosts that we approve of?
I mean, of course they don't want to be directing people to some more contentious or less helpful places, but iunno...something about telling everyone to go elsewhere, but then simultaneously limiting the "elsewhere" they'll allow access to (in the form of permitting links & info to be placed on their forum) seems off to me...

We'll need to wait and see how the 'suggest additions' bit works. If Lormahordes isn't on their approved list, but all it takes to get it there is someone to suggest it, there's no big deal. If anything, it would draw more attention to Lormahordes as a sort of official endorsement. That's good for us. However... and this is really just a hunch with nothing to substantiate it... Ultimately I would expect that while PP wants certain discussion to not be on their forums, they still want their forums to be active and populated - just only by stuff that reflects well on them as a company. So while they may say they want some discussion elsewhere, they also might want to shut down anything that seriously competes with them for the discussion they DO want. Blacklisting sites that are doing so well as to threaten the activity of PP's forums (and in doing so cutting off said site's access to recruitment of their members) would be one way of ensuring that the traffic they do want has no alternative location.

Let's avoid going full tinfoil hat mode until we know more. Val gave me the exact opposite impression when I spoke to her, so I'm not overly worried yet.

I don't think his speculation sounds tinfoil hat. I think it is a pretty reasonable extrapolation. The more successful this location gets, the more they will try to control it, albeit unofficially. It is the nature of the beast. Legally, they can't really blacklist people from talking about their game. All they can do is insist that certain graphics not be put up, yadda... yadda... yadda.

My only concern will be if they do eventually attempt legal action (forum titles, etc) which should be easily resolved at whatever time that action may take place. Though I trust Val, I don't trust corporate. They can turn on a dime, and what was, could be nolonger. Worked for Amzn for 6yrs; people in suits can be quite fickle. Just keep your ear to the ground and preparations ready. Otherwise, life as per usual

At the moment, we strictly follow their guidelines on their copyrighted names/images: privateerpress.com/company/trademarks-and-copyrightsThat means that, in the hypotesis PP wants to enforce © remotion they'll have to change those guidelines, and even in that case finding something else for the banner and returning at the funny names we had for the sections on the first days won't be a particular problem. That said, I also got the impression that PP doesn't necessarily sees this forum as a problem (on countrary), so I think that if we manage to keep the environment civil (that means not direct attacks or insults to PP) we can continue to let people express their opinions (positive or negative) without much worries. So don't worry, despite them taking discutible decisions in the last months, they are not an evil empire of nazis as someone pictures them.
