How to use silverline?
I was thinking with siege1, you could drop them in a foxhole, put them infront and use them as a tarpit that can't be charged, while the rest of your forces shoot. Also bring some lightning and they could help buff damage. Stormlances can charge right through them if you bring the cap.
With Nemo2 they can team up with centurions and another unit to say no to charging.
Also has anyone managed to stack their buffs with a firefly? It's generally difficult to pull off quickwork with the leader and requires some careful planning and CMA. I wonder if it is worth bringing a min unit with the firefly to stack buffs.
Main weakness is they die to pretty much anything and have to be b2b, and arcane shield is 'wasted' on them. Siege1 still seems okay with them, perhaps even Siege2.

Storm Guard of both types do want to be the screening unit you envision them to be. Unfortunately, they can't really pull it off. They are simply too slow.
In Storm Division, Storm Blades get advanced move, so they start out ahead of the guard. You have to slow down your force to use the guard as a screen, which really doesn't gel with the Cygnar way.
And Lances are way faster no matter what. The guard don't protect the lances from shooting, which is the only thing they really fear. Lances out threat most melee, so they usually want to be up front.
The +2 dmg AOE is very hard to pull off, and won't often be worth the trouble. Even though it doesn't stack, I'd rather take an extra firefly instead.
They just seem like a unit that tries to do several things, and falls short at every mark.
If you really wanted to run them, I'd say Haley3 could at least help their defense. Maybe go out of theme for Rhupert to make them def 16 against shooting. Or Caine1 and Stryker1 could put blur on them.

You can play them as using Stormblade Infantry because they shares the same victim stat, but they are simply inferior to them. At least they can stop the charge at all, so there is a use unlike Stormguard Infantry, but I don't think that they are cling to more than mediocre. At first, you need to keep alive them against the shootings before actually using them to deny the charge, but they are too fragile. They can't do their intended job, so you better discard them unless your local meta is very weird. For example, if you can't see RAT 5+ enemy units(units with ranged weapon with Damage Type: Electricity are also RAT 5+) and all opponents are concentrate on the melee units heavily, and don't use ARM 20+ warjacks and warbeasts, then there is some place for them. Else just put aside them.
Their damage buff is unreliable and you can't use it well. The threat range is only 11", and it is very easy to kill the Leader model and ruin your plan. At the similar threat range, you can have Gorman di Wulfe against the warjacks, Hutchuck for 2" more range and more accuracy, and both are much cheaper than the minimum unit of Silver Line. If you want to reliably increase the damage further more than throw a Firefly, you better pay Murdoch tax and hire Aiyana&Holt. It is not a wise plan to using Silver Line's damage buff.
