So every year, I plan on switching factions and playing it for a year. For March 2016-March 2017 it was Circle. Now that I've finished that year, culminating with playing at the OTC I'm off to the next year. For this year I am going to be playing Retribution. I'm focusing on Helynna, Kaelyssa, and Issyria. I may branch out and try others, but these lovely ladies are the ones I really want to get time with.
I plan on writing about my games, and my tourneys. So for my first one, here's my first games.
Tuesday nights are one on our regular game nights for the SWORM (South West Ohio Regional Meta). We play at The Game Haven. Some nights we twitch a table (https://www.twitch.tv/thegamehaven_oh). Last night I had the pleasure of playing against a couple of my fellow OTC team mates, and a newer player. I’m just going to summarize my games today.
My List (played my week 6 JML to test it out before we start our JML)
Helynna – Forges of War
Manticore x2
Hydra x2
Phoenix
Chimera
Gorgon
Artificer
Arcanist x3
Battle Mages x1
First game was against fellow OTC team member Jacob. He was playing Thexus with too many dudes. Really interesting game as this was my first game with Retribution and this was his first game with Cephalyx. The scenario was The Pit. It was a fun game stumbling around. I had the assassination, and took it in round 3, but as we were wrapping up we saw that his Monstrosity was within 3” of his caster and so he could sac pawn to it. We went and played on and he won on scenario. So many dudes! Need to think about how to deal with 50+ guys.
Second game was against one of our newer players Hoggie. He’s playing Ragnor and the Battle box, Rok, and scattergunners for a 35 point learning game. Fun game, highlights include bringing Rok down to 1 box and on fire. On his turn fire doesn’t go out, but I fail to break armor. Then he has a Bouncer frenzy on to Rok, hit, and fail to break armor again. If I had a piece of coal it would have been a diamond by the end of his control phase with how bad he was puckered up waiting to see if Rok died. Another highlight was putting a covering fire template in front of his scattergunners, and then pulling with Battle Mages. In the end I win on assassination. I think Hoggie will be a great player, as he gets his games in, he’s real keen on learning from his mistakes.
Third game was with our OTC team Captain Edge. It was a really good game, and competitive. I think if I hadn’t had the earlier games to work out the basics I couldn’t have won this game. He was playing Striker2. We played The Pit as our scenario.
Striker2
Thorn
Centurion x2
Max Trenchers w/Rockets
Min Stormlances
Lanyssa
Gorman
Eyriss2
Ragman
Archduke
Positioning was my friend this game. I kept his min Stormlances at bay with covering fire templates. I popped my feat at the right time, and he feated in response, only killing a Hydra, the Gorgon, and a couple Mages. Striker came in to try to clear the Zone and left the other Hydra hurt, but no systems crippled. He also left the Chimera with a crippled arm, but within melee. I Apparition the Chimera into Stryker’s back arc. I then get an Arcanist within B2B to repair the crippled arm, and another Arcanist gets close enough to Empower to remove Disruption. I make a mistake and activate the Chimera first instead of my caster. Chimera tries to throw Stryker, I need an 8, but instead roll a 7. So I activate Helynna, channel and boost Hand of Death unto Stryker, got it, and then hit a boosted Force Strike. I didn’t get a crit, but put him down to 8 boxes. Artificer attacks with Magno Bolt and gets 3 more points on Stryker. Last was a Hydra throwing Thorn hitting Stryker and killing him on collateral damage.
So far it feels like Order of Activations is going to be very important with how Retribution works. More games to follow.
