Just got my new Storm Strider in the mail yesterday. Anyone have any tips for assembly, posing, basing, or painting it? Any easy modification ideas? I don't want to give it a boring base - considering options, but I'm thinking maybe making something myself may be as good or better than a purchased base. I'm basically up for any advice.

Do you already have a consistent base look for the rest of your Cygnar? For example, I went with a trench/no man's land them. Using pine bark you can get a very rough ground look, which you can accessorize with sand bags made from green stuff, trenches, casualties, fleeing enemy, allies advancing on the base or in my case I added a Trencher machinegun in a small depression.
You could do a urban theme, add ruble, street signs, etc.

No consistent look with my models - I actually like the diversity, and it's meant that I can pick things up used without much worry. I do like your idea about green stuff and pine bark. I'm going to look through old D&D miniatures to see if any have parts I can use on the base. Should be fun.

My only complaint with the Storm Strider is that the pilots are just standing in the open, begging for a sniper (or any competent rifleman) to pick them off. If I was making one, I would add some kind of shielding to protect the pilots. Something as simple as some posts attached to the deck they are standing on, with rectangles of plasticard between them, would make the model 'read' as much more plausible.
As for the base, having the SS stepping over a fence would be a simple but dynamic addition.
