Hi!
I recently got a unit of Forge Guards, and I want to ask that if any of you got positive experience using them with one of the following casters? -Caine3 (They don't need to be fast with a gunline behind them, and they find Calamity tasty) -Damiano (Sure Foot + Rhupert sounds good on them) -Fiona ( ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) -MacBain!!! (They don't have the speed to be the Countermeasure target on the front line, but maybe with Fortune they worth a try) -Magnuses (Calamity on Mags2, and Blur or Death Ward on Mags1, but I'm not sure if it's worth it)
I also have Ashlynn, but I already know that they're pretty good with Quicken and her feat.

For me they are always a must, whoever the caster I play. They are hard to kill, have weapon master and are dwarves!!!!
Usually my rivals fear them so much that they waste a lot of energies trying to kill those little fellas. Good for the rest of my list. But fear those nasty things with anatomical precision and similar rules.

I have two units with Blaze. Crusaders call gets them to an 11 inch threat and they get delivered well on feat after a few models (steelheads usually) die.

Damiano: -> give them Vengeance. MAT9 and +3" extra mouvement when one dies, that really nice

Did that a lot in mk2. Very solid play.

I try them with Mag1 and give them death ward +2 armour. as long as you keep them in second line they are great.

I'll use them with any caster, they're solid by themselves and pretty great with a buff.

They are the merc equivalent of Sentinels, just not quite as good. I find that how I play them depends most on the caster, but that they stick around in list making really long into the process no matter who I pick. With Ashlynn, I run them as a front line with Tough and quicken, while with lots of other casters they are a great follow up to a line of Halberdiers.
TL;DR You won't be disappointed. They hit like trucks and take buffs like champs.

I've used them with McBAIN! They are quite good - because they are a worth putting the feat on and hit like trucks.
I've also used them with Fiona - she likes all sorts of rubbish - but they are quite tough - so making them have that I choose which one dies upkeep can make it hard to remove them from a zone/flag. I do have Ashlyn. Yes they are great with her and a lot of fun, I don't have the others you mention though.

Reaching for them more in mk3. I have two full units. They are the defacto mercenary "heavy" infantry.

The most important thing that make Hammer Dwarves better: -Speed buffs -ARM buffs -Some other way to deliver them
I haven't actualy put them on the table yet in MK3 (mostly because Idrians are just so good) but With that in mind I would consider playing them with: -Ashlynn (Quicken + feat for Crits) -Bart (Feat can deliver them) -Domiano (Vengeance for threat extension) -Shae (Feat, maybe Phantasm so they don;t get shot) -Cyphon (ARM buff and pathfinder) -Contance (Crusaders call) -Thexus (because he can polish any turd) -Ossrum (OBVIOUSLY) -Magnus1 (ARM buff)
The problem with Hammer Dwarves is that some other unit is usually the better choice to receive any of the aforementioned buffs but if you want to run them these are all decent casters for it.

Definitely going to be revisiting forge guard with domiano again. Death March plus feat was sweet.

a common thought i give you. I have played Domiano mostly with zero steelheads with him. In mK2 i dabbled with his theme force and I often played a cursory minimum unit of riflemen for coincs, but more often then not I would just run value models. Since SH cav are less appealing now I can see myself running he same config in Mk3. His spell list is just too good.
I can see myself running this:
Domiano - Mule - Mule Max Forgeguard Max Kayazy with UA Min Riflemen Wrong Eye - Snapjaw Rhupert Acosta Anastasia
No Rocinante? Not really a fan honestly. With his army doing the heavy lifting I like the Mule gun much better for crit dev's (that happen very often with dead eye). They give him a decent bumper. DEF 15 base Kayayzy (17 in melee) only gets better with Star Crossed and Sure Foot. Hammer dwarfs get death march and form the second wave, letting out 2 "vengeance tentacle models" to bait some kills. Riflemen often form a nice 3 pack team of three POW 15 CRA's with coins. Acosta can be a complete house and everything in the list loves the feat.

I haven't been able to justify bringing Acosta yet in mkIII, but I really liked him in mkII. It just seems that I always manage to find 1 additional point for a talon or a cheaper solo and anastasia. My meta skews very heavily towards boxes and armor, however, so I guess I get the first "We play in very different metas" of the new boards.
Not that I'm disagreeing with your success, I just frequently see 8 jacks/beasts and a couple solos and Acosta frequently doesn't get where he is going.
