Hey everyone,
Been playing around with a few different Gyrrshyld concepts. I have ran maybe 10 or so games with him and have not found anything that I had particularly loved. I have paired him with all sorts of jank. I will be dropping him this sunday at my FLGS Steam roller and wanted to get some real feedback on the newest jank I wanted to try.
Pairing this with either a Helynna (double sents/manticore) list for armor cracking or Vyros 2 (helios/imp/griffons).
Retribution of Scyrah - Ghyrrshyld - Shadows
Theme: Shadows of the Retribution
2 / 2 Free Cards 75 / 75 Army
Lord Ghyrrshyld, the Forgiven - WJ: +28
- Banshee - PC: 18 (Battlegroup Points Used: 18)

Mage Hunter Assassin - PC: 0
Narn, Mage Hunter of Ios - PC: 0
Arcanist Mechanik - PC: 2
Arcanist Mechanik - PC: 2
Arcanist Mechanik - PC: 2
Mage Hunter Strike Force - Leader & 9 Grunts: 16
- Mage Hunter Strike Force Commander - PC: 4
Mage Hunter Strike Force - Leader & 9 Grunts: 16
- Mage Hunter Strike Force Commander - PC: 4
Spears of Scyrah - Leader & 2 Grunts: 9
- Eiryss, Mage Hunter Commander - PC: 6
- Soulless Escort - PC: 1
- Soulless Escort - PC: 1
Theory: playing this into mostly WM but maybe has game into hordes. MHSF can clear off infantry and/threat warjacks. Spears are more specialist in that they will be tying up units I dont want to face early on (at def 17 in melee) or scalping targets I want dead (i.e. support pieces). The real jank comes from Mage sight and the double banshees. Kind of a ghetto phantom hunter in that I will get 2 boosted shots to try and knock down the enemy caster and have 2 units of MHSF to mini feat/paper cut the caster to death. If the banshees ever get tied up, you can just ghost walk them to leave melee range and then shoot.
Havent play tested it yet but wanted to give it a try. Let me know what you guys think

Hi!
I have been toying with the same ideas, some comments: - you would probably want an arc node to use backlash and hex blast - Hydras are ok with goreshade because you can stack focus for arcane vortex - you can add 1 soulless in each strike force + 1 in the spears to have an additional assassin for free. Free stuff is always nice - I love soulless on spears to proc vengeance. Poor guys are always in the front. - the list is very designed against warmachine and your pair against hordes, your opponent will easily know what you are going to drop - I guess there is little to be done on this - In my Vyros2/Goreshade4 pairing, I had many troubles against Baldur2, the new bane theme force, Nemo3. Legion and Skorne are often chicken lists situations. So the viability of your pairing will depend on your meta. Expect tons of banes though
That said, I like Goreshade in shadows. I just wish he had a better feat. Maybe I am missing something...

I just wish he had a better feat. Maybe I am missing something.. Hi, Good points - I played Vyros 2/Gore4 (this list) in a Tournament this weekend. I actually somehow managed to place first (although there are definitely some tweaks I would make). So actually Gore4 has the swiss army knife of great assassinations. - you would probably want an arc node to use backlash and hex blast - So I actually originally wanted an arc node and I tried to fit it but it didn't work out points wise. But again, I think backlash is a nice way to put a bit of pressure on your opponent. I would have also liked to - Hydras are ok with goreshade because you can stack focus for arcane vortex - I liked the concept of focus retention but the double banshees are core component to the list. I am taking at least 2 arcanists (option to flex the 3rd - although I will say he is not needed after play test). I am using the banshees primarily for their slam cannon combo'd with magesight. - you can add 1 soulless in each strike force + 1 in the spears to have an additional assassin for free. Free stuff is always nice - Good idea! I just need to buy more soulless..... but more free models and a free assassin is HUGE in this list. MHA actually won me games (decap is great)/- I love soulless on spears to proc vengeance. Poor guys are always in the front. - I actually tend to put the soulless way back in this list (max of 9" eiyrss command away) and use him as my insurance to revive spears somewhat near G4. In this list I use the spears as jamming units to proc vengeance on eiyrss to increase assassination vectors. - the list is very designed against warmachine and your pair against hordes, your opponent will easily know what you are going to drop - I guess there is little to be done on this - I actually don't hate this list too much into hordes. I think it has some play into it scenario wise/assassination wise. This is a very heavy assassination list with some high def skews. I don't think it can out attrition hordes but with SR2017 it can scenario somewhat well.- In my Vyros2/Goreshade4 pairing, I had many troubles against Baldur2, the new bane theme force, Nemo3. Legion and Skorne are often chicken lists situations. So the viability of your pairing will depend on your meta. Expect tons of banes though - I hate the new bane theme. It really is annoying. Gore4 can ignore the clouds and same with the strike force. It wouldn't be a favorable match up but I will play test it into that list and see whats up!

So after play testing in pick up games/dropping this list in a tournament - here are some of my thoughts.
Battle Tips:
- Mage Sight (Key spell) - Attaining LOS through forest/clouds covers a good amount of LOS hindrances. You want to use your banshees to either knock down the caster OR slam something else into their caster. In such a high stealth list, you need magesight to see your own stealth models if you want to slam them into the enemy warcaster.
- Ghost Walk (Key spell)- It's not an upkeep either so put that on anything you need. If your MHSF is jammed up, ghost walk them so they can walk out and shoot at the knocked down caster. If your banshee needs to get through rough terrain to get the right angle to shoot the caster just ghost walk them. If you need a slam target into the opponents caster (if they are in a trench or in rubble) ghost walk a MHA the full 14” to get them right next to the caster – then slam your own model into their caster.
- Eiryss 3/Spears (Key model) – Eiryss is a key model. You want her always in a position that is safe but constantly threatening the enemy caster. I use the spears to jam up their jacks/beasts/infantry. If they get hurt, vengeance. Eiryss now threatens an extra 3”. W/ a charge/quickwork – this is really powerful. You need her to knock off the focus/fury from the knocked down caster. If they don’t kill the spears, good job spears… you are jamming them up well. xD
- MHA/Narn – The MHA and narn are really nice. The fact that MHA have such a crazy assassination vector w/ a 4” chain on the attack and decap makes this really fun. You can get some really wonky charges off because of the 4” chain. Narn has acrobatics so he doesn’t even care about intervening models when charging. Just needs distance/LOS. They can also as a last resort be great ghost walk/slammable targets (needing boosted 7s from the back arc to hit) since they are speed 7.
- MHSF – mini feat to paper cut assassinate after the caster is knocked down. Can flex these guys to do a lot of work.
Additional thoughts:
- I am still not a fan of shadows. It is wonky. Also, spam AOEs can really put some hurt on this list, even with proper spacing.
- This list is contingent upon planning ahead for turn 2/turn 3+ assassination. You have to keep the key spells/models in castable/action ready positions for this list to really hit its potential.
Overall this list was way more fun than I thought it would be originally. It also has very unpredictable assassination vectors.

I've played it a few times, it should be up on video eventually. It is aggressively mediocre probably.
When I first looked at him, I thought gunline because of Ghost Walk to disengage and Chiller to improve accuracy. I ended up with MHSF as the primary because of the interaction with Jack Hunter and Backlash (not a fan of Riflemen, Invictors are nice but need a theme). I also don't hate Shadows theme because it is generally higher defense and more likely to get mileage out of the feat.
I wanted a colossal because Goreshade does balls to help hitting power and you need to have a large amount of health to survive if you want the feat to work in your favor. I went with Helios over Hyperion because Helios also helps with threat ranges (something else he doesn't do) as well as has the Repulsor Field. So if your opponent doesn't have reach, they get a max of 2 attacks and then stationary, or they have to jump through some positioning hoops. Also a huge base is very good for Chiller.
Originally I had the spears, but I skipped out on the Revive gameplan. Generally I am too busy fueling the jacks and swapping things around to have the focus left to sink into it. Ditto with Nayl/Feat combo; it is cute.
When the Dawnguard theme drops though, I am going to look super hard at him and Invictors.

Hello,
A slight variation to the original list posted. The more I play this list, the more I really enjoy it. Providing my play history w/ Ghyrrshyld so far.
Games Played w/Ghyrrshyld (Total): 9 Games Won w/Ghyrrshyld (Total): 7
Games Played w/Ghyrrshyld - King Slayer List: 4 Games Won w/ Ghyrrshyld - King Slayer List: 4
Match Ups (King Slayer List): G4 v Heretic - Won roll for first. Pushed a strong scenario presence and got 3 CPs and set the line of engagement really far up. The piggybacks are so hard to kill, just jammed them and ignored them. Went back and forth on attrition for a few turns. Heretic can't be knocked down so I used my banshees to take out threat pieces. All it took was ghosts walks/FF on MHSF (3 remaining in the unit) and ghost walk on Spears (1 spear/Eiryss) to charge the heretic (Def 15/Arm 15). Heretic drops down to Def 13 -> ghost walk allows spear to get into back arc of heretic which drops him to Def 11. Its over at that point.
G4 v Elara 2 - Elara 2 w/ 3 halb units/hyperion/AFG clears out more than 90% of my army. Lost both units of MHSF/1 MHA/Spears. All I have is Narn, 1 MHA, 2 Banshees, Eiyrss. This list has so much assassination potential even with just those pieces remaining. Elara is safe from any ranged attacks in a trench. I charge something with narn and sprint allows me to end around 2.5" away from Elara in the trench. I use G4 to mage sight/give ghost walk to a banshee to try to slam my Narn into Elara. I roll short and Narn doesnt get the distance. My opponent placed a soulless escort just a little bit to close to Elara and outside of the trench. I used my 2nd banshee to slam that into Elara (I shouldve done this in the first place.... didn't see it until after I tried with Narn). The soulless is slammed into Elara. Eiryss charges a halberdier and quickworks into the knocked down Elara and purges all focus/does a decent amount of damage. MHA charges Elara and decaps her.
G4 v Strakhov1 - He ran this with Ruin/double gun carriages. I lose the battle on the right side (only had MHSF on that side) but jam up the left side (his gun carriage) with a few MHSF and spears. Run the banshees up the middle to get ready to fight ruin. He keeps Strakhov1 really far back most of the game 12.1" out from table ledge (as not to kill box himself). Banshee/MHA was able to kill the gun carriage on the left but I had lost quite a bit of MHSF. Ghyrrshylds feat works really well on a high def skew. He was unable to clear out everything he needed to bc of missed attack rolls and things were stationary. I used Ghost walk on my banshee, mage sight to see Strakhov and slammed him. Eiyrss shot him while he was knocked down to strip focus. MHSF peppered him and finished him off. I still had the MHA left to activate.
G4 v Makeda 1 - will post after lunch (writing this all out of order)
Things I've Learned: - will post after lunch

One of the complaints I hear with 4Shade is he has no threat extension (which is true). Was just wondering if anyone has used Lanyssa for hunters mark or if the points are not worth it?

Yeah that is actually one of my biggest complaints about him too. No threat extenders but Spears/Eiryss vengeance and ghost walk help the list feel a little less predictable in threat. I was toggling with the idea of taking Lanyssa - would revisit the whole list in general though.
Will let you know after I run a few games!
