I would love to take Madelyn Corbeau or Rhupert in a Reznik 2 or Kreoss 3 Exemplar theme list!

Like my problem with the this is just a draft argument is that they seem to be handing us the alpha version of the model. Like seriously put in some work before hand. This is rediculous like it bugs me with video games as well when you have some people giving you nearly competed games for beta testing and some people barely give you a program to beta test their game.

I like the change, but perhaps it should be you get 1 solo, unit, or battle engine. Not up to 1 of each.
So you could take either Rhupert, a unit of Idrians, or a Siege crawler in the Exemplar Interdiction theme, but not all 3. You'd have to pick 1.(Yes, I am aware the siege crawler doesn't work for protectorate, it for the sake of the example)

I like the change, as it opens up more options, but at the same time it almost completely kills of the reason to play out of theme. I would be fine with this myself, if they would just hurry up and release a number of themes so that every model per faction was included in at least one theme list.
At the moment, my theme decision tree goes like this: 'Do I need Monks/Paladins? No? go theme, Yes? go non-theme'.
A friend suggested to me that all non-theme lists should have gotten a rule where for every X they get Y points of free mercs/minions instead. That way, non-theme are no longer playing points down, and it means the themes can remain tight to the 'theme' as there is the viable option in the non-theme list.

I like that last paragraph, hope its been suggested in CID forum. I'm starting to see a continuum of choice forming where flexibility in list construction is inversely proportional to bonuses. Something like: Not in theme (minimum bonus, maximum flexibility as you have the entire breadth of the faction + mercs) ^ || || V In theme, with mercs (middling bonus since you have the theme benefits but mercs don't count towards free points/bonuses, middling flexibility as you have theme restrictions) ^ || || v In theme, no mercs (maximum bonus as all models contribute towards your free points and theme benefits, but also minimum flexibility) Now an issue is sometimes the benefit is skewed way too much in one direction and has to be addressed.

Personally, I feel like opening theme forces up to include merc/minions doesn't actually give us that many more options/list variety. It seems that most suggestions are just Upgrades to current lists. I think Idrians are the only unit I have seen suggested. (I suppose there are now two interdiction lists... Errants for free theme points or Idrians for power.) I don't think I've seen more than one or two merc solo's suggested per "meta" list (Interdiction, Creators might, etc.) Is their a battle engine we would have any interest in anywhere? Keep in mind I am not very familiar with the Mercenaries line-up yet. Am I missing something?

Taryn can really turn on some of our ranged lists. A creator's might shooting list under Malekus or Kreoss has much better assassination potential when you can drop a colossal or battle engine out of LOS blocking. Don't know if that really affects over all list construction though but its a good option to have.
Ruhpert is really the biggest thing here. Given that he's now available in the interdiction it really pushes you to include Gravus even more. No knockdown and tough on the errants is no joke.
Gorman helps out guardians with hitting power for infantry vs jacks and control vs battle engines which is no small thing.
Eiryss1 in any list is a very legitimate threat that any caster will have to respect and Eiryss1/2 are disruption on a stick which when combined with Kreoss 1 or Malekus can be really good for jack control.
Kell Bailoch and Orin Midwinter are always solid picks.
Forge guard can bring some serious hitting power to Guardians. Croes cuthroats are an interesting pick as well. Thorn gun mages will help Feora2 and Malekus spread fire for the feat turn. Devil dogs do great damage vs warjacks if you can keep them alive.
There are lots of options on for protectorate with this rule so adding an attendant priest to your shopping list may not be a bad idea.

Indeed, and don't forget Anastasia en Corbaeu (Reznik2).

that.
I'd lean towards Rhupert. Exemplars with Defender's ward are already harder to kill than a lot of other infantry out there. Give them the Gravus + Rhupert combo and they turn into a brick that will keep a lot more points than they have tied up for a long time.

For me, the biggest thing here is idrians in Creator's Might. By opening up screening units and the possibility of souls for reclaimers or sanctifiers, quite a few lists become a bit more viable, even entirely different casters.
I also like eiyriss for Guardians, she can help tone down the threat of armor for that list, and as a small solo can currently be grabbed as a theme benefit (unless that changed).
