So the new CID cycle is going to allow theme forces to take one merc/minion battle engine, solo and/or unit of your choice as part of their composition. This means we can now have Ruhpert tag along quite easily.
In my mind this just shoots Guardians and Interdiction even higher up on the power scale. Tough errants and tough flameguard are deffinitely a thing. Oh and it might be that because idrians are mercs they might fall under this rule allowing them in every theme list.
What are your thoughts on this vis a vis protectorate list building. Any other additions you'd consider bringing along for the ride?

Yep, Idrians would be allowed, great to screen jacks with for Creators.

Doesn't do much of anything for the Exemplar theme. But it will be welcome in Creator's Might, since a unit of idrians is exactly what you need.

What am I missing about Partisan making Idrians non-merc friendly faction? Have not had time to check this out today. From the CID forums: Theme Force changes:In this CID cycle we are testing a new core rules change that will change the way Theme Forces work. In addition to the models that are allowed in a Theme Force, a player may take one Mercenary/Minion Solo, Unit and Battle Engine. The goal for this change is to allow for deeper list building inside of themes lists by allowing for more options while remaining thematic. The Mercenary/Minion model must be able to work for the faction taking it, it doesn't become a free-for-all. Additionally, please note that with the current wording that Mercenary and Minion theme forces will remain unchanged with this rule and will not be able to include these additional models types. In addition to the models listed in the Army Composition section of each theme force, a non-Mercenary, non-Minion army made using a theme force can include up to one Mercenary solo, unit, and battle engine, including Mercenary models/units with the Partisan rule. The Mercenary models/units must work the army’s Faction. If a Mercenary model that can control warjacks or warbeasts is included in an army, the warjacks and warbeasts that model controls can also be included. For example, if the Mercenary solo Gastone Crosse is included in an army made using a theme force, the army can also include Mercenary warjacks controlled by Crosse. The relevant part that greytemplar is refering to is: In addition to the models listed in the Army Composition section of each theme force, a non-Mercenary, non-Minion army made using a theme force can include up to one Mercenary solo, unit, and battle engine, including Mercenary models/units with the Partisan rule. The Mercenary models/units must work the army’s Faction.

There are plenty of upkeeps worth stripping that do more than buff def/arm. Battle Charged/Road to War, Admonition, iron flesh (if running redeemers), battle host, etc. Even then, Hex blast is still a boosted pow13 gun (and has good synergy with the vessel), ranged RFP is super valuable right now because of ghost fleet, and then there's puppet master.

Hell, even bleed is good because it heals him for the damage he does to himself for boosting

Unless by "I" you mean "I, who tests hypothetical solutions in mock pseudo-games for the CiD program", no you can't. There are no such rules in the game.

Snark aside, that is what I'm starting to see as a fundamental weakness of the CID; the initial kneejerk reaction to information that is in a practical 2nd draft form kills positivity. People seem to forget that this is all supposed to be unbalanced to a point and that these rules are supposed to be broken apart. Maybe that's a good thing, getting all the salt out early so when things become official rules (ie: Battle Engines and Grymkin this weekend) everyone's used to it and people just go and play. Also, let's keep the snark to a minimum! It may be funny, but let's keep it civil

I don't like it and i hope it does not go through. There should be enticements not to play in theme. This would pretty much remove it.

I'm very on the fence about it. On one hand it will increase list diversity. On the other hand it really poops all over theme limitations and the "thematic" element of a theme.
