After running around, trying all kinds of different models and casters in mk 3. I'm back to Bart, and he still seems very solid, but with perhaps a bit more bad matchups than before (Screw you Eye of Truth).
Currently running this list
Mercenary Army - 75 / 75 points
(Montador 1) Captain Bartolo Montador [+26]
- Galleon [39]
- Buccaneer [6]
- Talon [7]
- Talon [7]
- Talon [7]
- Nomad [11]
- Nomad [11]
Ragman [4]
Orin Midwinter, Rogue Inquisitor [5]
Gobber Tinker [2]
Gobber Tinker [2]
Thoughts on the list or just Bart in general are welcome.

I have two questions for you. I have the models to play it, but I'm always concerned about the matchup into any Hordes faction. What do you think about changing Talons into Buccaneers and Nomads into Freebooters? More models to chew through, less situational usefulness on the Talons, less POW overall (slightly mitigated by ragman).
Second question, and obviously related, how do you find Talons against non jack heavy lists? They've always devolved into jammers/solo hunters for me against dude spam/hordes lists, so I feel like I'm missing something.

Nomads into Freebooters is a very possible change, I just prefer nomads since they are tougher.
Talons being used to jam is in my opinion talons being used correctly. Talons are ofc less useful vs list with little jacks but using a 7 pts arm 21 light to tie up a unit is also pretty good. Also most of the time they just need to stand in the way so the things that wants to kill my galleon can't get to it.

Bart lists. Galleon Season to Taste I know its not optimal I always like just the Galleon then following up with the pirate boat.

This sounds crazy, but I like Bart with Precursors. They're pretty self sufficient and solid late game.

Bart seems like he'd be a great pair to either thexus drudge swarm or damiano kingmaker with full trenchers and 20-30 steelheads.
I'm currently thinking about something like: Bart Sylys Galleon 2x nomad 4x talon A+H
Anyways, I'm debating whether or not the galleon is the best way to build Bart. He does so much for it between his feat, hot shot and batten.
But if I dropped the galleon and a few other pieces, I could really skew hard toward box/armour and run something like:
Bart 4x nomad 2x rover 3x talon Ragman Tinker
What so you guys think?

Don't forget that Bart builds well into kingmaker - if you want to use a galleon and/or build for broadside, rangers are amazing and ambushing boomhowlers are value. Both rangers and min boomhowlers are 20 points and will net you Orin for free.
That gives you builds like:
Bart, double galleon, rangers, min boomhowler, free Orin or Kell, Meg.
Bart, 4 rover, 3 talon, rangers, min boomhowler, free Orin or Kell
If you want to try spamming broadside, you can also do a build with rangers, min Trenchers and all Mariners. The Trenchers can advance and dig in, making them immune to blast and relatively safe as loaders.

As much as I feel like Broadside in general is an enormous trap, I can't see Bart without Galleon having much game. The perk of a lot of ARM skew lists is that you have so much to chew through, that you can trade punches all day and come out on top. With Bart and even a bunch of Nomads, I feel like you are just going to end up losing on scenario because you don't hit hard enough or cover enough space.
Galleon fixes both problems.

I'll agree here as well. The galleon really is the lynchpin of the army. the ARM skew is great, but without the galleon shooting off models each turn, regular jackspam just doesn't sound all that appealing. Hot Shot Galleon is just too damn good to pass up.
