Well, I'm a guy who plays ALLOT of Ranged Harkevitch. Like ALLOT.
I have used him almost obsessively and I only stopped using him after a breaking point when I realized his ranged Game just is..bad and not even fun.
I played him the following styles:
WG Kommand, Jaws of the Wolf, Out of theme no mercs, Out of theme with Mercs
With Destroyers, Sprigains, Conquest(s), Victor(s), Black Ivan, Torch, Decimators, Devastators, Kodiaks, Mauraders, Demolishers, Behemoth and of course Kodiaks (Because they are great).
With Rat Fixers (Or Helpers): Kolduns, Artillery Captains (I made my own before they were even released) Field Gun Crews, Lady Aiyana & Master Holt (With or Without Valachev).
Its not the Rat. People say that Broadsides isn't worth it because we have bad Warjack RAT. And it's not the issue. Khador has plenty of access to Accuracy buffs. From simple slams to our Kolduns or even strait Rat fixers like the Artillery Captains or even the Victor itself. And the Mortar is generally pretty great at setting up barrages.
I have never had a HUGE problem with Accuracy. Generally, there are few "Heavy" Targets that also have high defense. Cover and Concealment is of course still a pain, but nothing EXCLUSIVE to Khador. And generally, the infantry can take care of them.
In Fact, I have used Kossites to just pop up, and take up the Hidey holes of opponents, denying them the defense buffs, it works alright.
No the issue is that Additional Warjack shots from our Jacks just don't do much. Sure the Victor Provides utility, but Strahkov can have him provide that Utility as well, and its not very impressive spammed.
I think PP highly overvalues AOE scatter. Even at massive sizes like 5 AOE, it's just too unreliable for good infantry clearing (Or in case of the victor reliably applying its effects). Even the Artillery captain doesn't really help in that regard. Only against the HIGHEST Density Infantry does it really do anything.
Or I take that back. Highest density, and Low Armor. Or in essence Low Defense (Like SUPER Low), Low armor and High Density. And that's such a hollow goal for a spell. Taking out the easiest thing to take out.
Even Bart who has a AOE boosting spell, didn't really go anywhere with Broadsides until the Galleon added the Threat extension utility with its hook.
But that's infantry. The true trouble a Ranged Harkevitch battlegroup has is against Warnouns. The Damage is just not very impressive. Broadsides (Even if it lets say hits) only does pretty measly damage against anything sans Cryx Warjacks. And again that's a hollow goal.
But the worst part is that broadsides works terribly with reposition. The Destroyer can't do enough damage to warrant casting (3 Damage on avarage against an average heavy), and a Decimator (4 damage isn't that much better) can't then use reposition to back into safety away from a 10 inch threat range (The average heavy threat range) after using reposition. And Conquest or Victor can't reposition.
Overall I don't think its so much our Jacks Fault (The Demolisher and Deci and Victor wouldn't mind a facelift. And Black Ivam a lyposyction, and a Boob Job) as much as Harkevitchs Unfocused nature.
I get he's not supposed to be pure ranged caster but unless he provides ranged capability in any decent fashion, then it will just be weak.
