I'm looking att the list and wonder if the two Vassals of Menoth couldn't be replaced by 2 punch monks or Dartan (for another shield guard). I'm also thinking I could swap something to add either Cinerators (immune to fire. They could screen the Flameguards on the approach and be sprayed over without problem) or Temple Flame Guards (good inexpensive tarpit). I would look at putting in the Heirophant and some wracks. Malekus is at his core a spell slinger and if you can buff his ability to do that it really starts to open up his options.

I'm hesitating between the support/safety of Rhoven and Co. and the extra damage/solo hunting provided by Thorn Gun Mages...

Something for Malekus' safety is pretty key. He's a medium base that will need to be within 12" minimum of the front line to feat. If you can't protect him from shooting you'll be sunk right quick.

Would a Vigilant be a good idea? You have two large-base jacks. Use them to block LoS. Not perfect, but easy.

Another part of malekus that seems to go unnoticed is that he has the best ranged attack of any protectorate warcaster. A case can be made for Feora 3 but his spray has the highest base p+s highest natural rat boostable and additional die on feat turn. If he was able to use open fire on himself I think it would be a more discussed tactic as it stands it's more of a dark horse ability but one of the main reasons i would like to play him with hand of judgement. As for protection jack bunker, cinerators, or a shield guard pick one no need for much more if your close enough to be feating your in charge range so if you don't capitalize it's likely game over.

This is a large part of why he is surprisingly good in a Journeyman league. In early weeks, the spray has enough range to keep him relatively safe, and absolutely nothing in the game likes a POW13+4d6 to the face (boost + feat). Personal favorite game in my recent JML involved Malekus trying to chase down and kill a Hunter while being shot (week 2, my last jack was cowering behind a building). Thanks to his spray, was a legit attempt at winning, only failed because rolled awful for two turns in a row.

Now that I think about it, Cinerators might do some work for him. First they can screen him until his feat turn, after which they've either been shot at or charged, triggering Vengeance, which can be buffed by his ignite. I've considered running him in the Exemplar theme for a free Bastion for a RAT7 Repented, but does I think he loves Hand of Judgement too much.

I've only just picked him up, and so am by no means an expert on him, but this is what I plan to run: conflictchamber.com/#c2201bfZ9x9x9x1H2d2d3B2_2s2h2iProtectorate Army - 75 / 75 points (Malekus 1) Malekus, the Burning Truth [+30] - Repenter [8] - Repenter [8] - Repenter [8] - Revenger [10] - Vanquisher [17] - Vanquisher [17] Wrack [1] Choir of Menoth (min) [4] Exemplar Cinerators (max) [16] Holy Zealots (max) [13] - Monolith Bearer [3] Idea is to have the Repenter's shielded by the Cinerators, and Mal sheidled by the Repenters. Zealots are there to contest a zone - I figure they will survive a round, minifeat back, then use Mal's feat to clear their zone with boosted bombs - use the 1 " trick to make sure I cannot deviate off, giving boosted pow 8's if needs be. It has a whole lot of sprays and aoe fire so the feat turn should be good, but at the same time has a unit of weapon masters, and two heavies with thresher to help clear if needs be. Obviously I would not be running the above into any sort of jack skew, it is mainly there to deal with infantry hordes - which whilst not popular atm, will become more popular in SR 2017 now that solo's cannot score round zones.

I'm thinking Idrians + book might be a good combo with Malekus. Lot's of shots that set things on fire.

I'm also looking at running a creator's might list with Malekus/Tristan. Have Malekus run eye of truth and some good beater jacks (Maybe a reckoner/castigators), and channel scourge through the eye. A pair of redeemers fueled by Tristan will make short work of anything that gets hit by that spell. Even if you miss, odds aren't that bad a large base model will still be in the AOE and then the redeemers lay into it. I'd bet on this putting down the heaviest units quickly.

I'd suggest a Revenger, if possible. One arc node is easy to tie up, especially a high-priority one like Eye. Two arc nodes makes it much, much harder to stop your trick from going off.

Good point. The eye is pretty durable on its own, but a Revenger also doubles as a great attrition jack.
