Hey all you Minions players I have been really interested in some of your models recently and as a Ret player I think it would be fun to try out the fury mechanic so I am looking to assemble a small minions force and I wanted some advice. Personally I really love the looks of the gatormen especially the Posse and Croak Raiders and I was wanting to know what you all thought about them. I would like to run a Gator force but are there any others models that work really well? Thanks in advance for any help.

Initial advice would be a beast catalog of x2 Wrastlers, x2 Spitters, and x1 Blindwalker; Targ and a Mist Speaker for some solos, as well as the three main lessers of Wrong Eye, Rorsh, and Dahlia. Realistically, I'd suggest holding off a week until the Blindwater Theme gets spoiled, because everything may change on you.

Thanks for the advice I was unaware that the Blindwater Theme was any where close to being released. I'll have to look into that. I am glad to hear that Dahlia sees play as that answer part of my next question. Of the Minions options that I already have access to in Ret (Dahlia, Lanyssa, and Nyss Hunters) which ones if any actually see play in minions. I know you mentioned Dahlia but what about the other two? It's always nice to have models that are reusable.

So...good timing! Bad news is none of those 3 you own are likely to be in theme. Yeah, all 3 see way more play in Minions than in Ret. Dahlia is friendly faction, which makes life a lot easier (I play Ret for WM). She slots well with Rask and Jaga for me at the moment. Grave Wind goes very well on Skarath. Pig side she goes with Arkadius and Sturm at the moment for me. Dahlia is a great scenario piece and the snake is very legit, only good things to say. Lanyssa is taken less since the point cost increase, but she still hangs around. I value her mostly for the free charge over the extra distance, I am in the camp of you maximize damage by maximizing number of attacks (once you hit a high enough Pow). Nyss are the only infantry Minions has access to with a decent defense. Hunter is great too, but they still die to someone looking at them cross eyed. Just like in Ret.

I have positive experience with the Efaarit scouts. Most of the players say you should get 2, but a single one can cause a lot of trouble. My only one usually kills a support model and put some decent damage into a light before it gets caught. On the other side there's a great chance they won't be allowed in the Blindwater theme, cause they're already in the Thornfall theme.

Thanks for all of your help guys my last question would be what of the Gators 'locks are the most beginner friendly. I have been playing Ret for a couple years now but I have no experience with Hordes. I have looked at Barnabas and he looks pretty cool but what are your opinions?

Yeah, I think Barney would be the most suited for a new player. You can get some successful matches with Rask too. I also heard that Calaban would be another easy to use lock, but I don't have him so wait for the opinion of others.

Bloody Barnabas is deceptive thou. I thought he was a melee oriented caster, nope...turned out he's amazing at range. Pop feat then Croak Raiders and Cylena with her rowdies goes in for the kill.

I'm not a new player, but I'm new to minions and I just picked up Calaban. I'd agree he's fairly easy to learn, but I would say his feat lacks a lot of wonder at the lower points levels with so few models on the board. It was practically useless the first couple of Battlebox-equivalent games I ran with him.
That said, I'm new to Minions and I'm interested in playing Calaban & Maelok with the new theme force. So far I have Calaban, Maelok, 2x Wrastler/Blindwalker kits magnetized, and a Gatormen Posse. How should I look to expand in a way that can let me play both casters at various points levels?

A) Try a few proxy games before you buy, and B) Croak Raiders. Out of theme, Brigands instead of Croaks; prior to the theme Brigands were seen as superior and taken across a lot more lists. Both casters play a semi-ranged game with a spell arm debuff and no threat extension. At least that is how I am intending to approach them in-theme to start.

A spitter and a mistspeaker are always good.

Wrongeye & Snapjaw would also be fairly useful to have for list building. They fit into most lists nicely and provide a lot. They also begin to showcase one of mk3 minions' playstyle choices in bringing lesser locks a lot, and WE&SJ do provide a big use to both those casters in star crossed and another good heavy

A spitter and a mistspeaker are always good. Is the intent of the Mistspeaker to generally support the Spitter's visibility with Eyeless Sight, or what other general uses do people get out of him?

Eyeless and Magical Weapon. His other abilities are eh, but they may have uses at times. Influence can be kind of funny to get a guy out of the way or something. I've never used the cloud myself as it appears so small as to be ineffective. You have to really get him up in there for it to work.
