Anyone have thoughts or experience with the CID Siege Crawler and its ability to return d3 small based Rhulic troopers? Specifically TAC or even Artillery Corps troopers (HAC)? Reading the Interwebs, it's easy to get focused on Forgeguard as the target unit but couldn't you leave one trooper of said types in relative safety and keep regenerating the TAC or HAC, too? ...Or are those units too small for it to be feasible (i.e. they get killed off entirely before it can work)?
"Reinforcements [Rhulic] - During your Maintenance Phase, return to play d3 small-based Grunts to friendly Rhulic units currently in this model’s command range. Models return with 1 unmarked damage box. Place the returned Grunts completely within this model’s command range, in formation, and within 3˝ of another model in its unit. Returned Grunts must forfeit their Combat Action the turn they are put into play."
I'm not an experienced MK III player so thanks for any input.

If the crawler stays at 17 then FG and TAC get you exactly 40 points for 2 free artillery. Then you can take 2 Drillers and 7 bunnies and you will, occasionally, reinforce the TAC and the HAC. TAC are the only Rhulic source of magic attacks.

It's the biggest buff the TAC has ever seen. I'm genuinely looking forward to putting them on the table.

It's pretty pointless, TBH. TAC can't hold up to much, and reinforcements doesn't work if the unit is wiped out.

I treat them as a ranged/support unit with delusions of melee for this reason. Your mileage may vary.

My only issue is the must forgo combat actions clause. That really slows the recursion down. After what cryx was up to i see why they are being so careful tho...

I will at least give them a try, I love the model of TAC. Its really sad the nerf from MK3. Rush 2 including the leader to the front, just leave 1 behinding the BE would be save enough.

They've definitely been nerfed, but TAC + Forgeguard + Crawler = 40 points = 2 free HACs in theme. That's enough excuse to get me to put them back on the table. Not sure if they will be any good, but it's worth a look at least.

Not sure if they will be any good, but it's worth a look at least. Played them in CID a bunch, plus a couple of games last night. Here's the deal - they still suck. BUT, Hammer Strike really loves having access to magical attacks. It really gives them a reasonable dose of flexibility. The Crawler giving them the occaisional reinforcement or two is fairly useful - more so than resurrecting a few Forge Guard, IMO. So while they do still suck, they at least fill a reasonably useful role in Hammer Strike, specifically, which is all they really need to do IMO (although I certainly wouldn't complain if they hit CID someday) Played them last night and they were invaluable. Got me an assassination kill against Thagrosh1

I wish H+J were 6 points so I wouldn't have to take TAC.

Honestly, the biggest loss for the TAC was the hit boxes, and the Siege Crawler fixes just that. Considering they output accurate and powerful magic attacks and can actually provide a viable threat on feat with Battle Wizard, they make up their points and then some. Also consider that if you play them smart, and keep one back, you have a 66.66% just to get back the entire unit, which is absurd. I absoultly love the TAC with the Crawler. I got in about 3 games so far and they pulled their weight and provided some nice threats that many people honestly didn't expect.

I wish H+J were 6 points so I wouldn't have to take TAC. TAC have a far stronger place in Hammer Strike than H+J. The only thing the Arquebus guys provide is blast damage we don't need, and Artillerist, which has gradually become more corner case. Magical attacks and the occasional cloud give far more mileage nowadays.

the TAC are a wonderful tool in the toolbox. clouds, magic blasts and pow 13 charges with battle wizard. crawler makes them acceptable. hooray!
