Not sure how many PGs are on these forums, but we just got an email telling the Press Gang program is done and thanks for the help, but we are no longer needed.
It's not unexpected after their last communication to the gang, but it is bittersweet. I've been a PG since 2006 and met a lot of great people. Even on my recent break, it was still fun to talk to other players and PGs.
I will miss it.

Wow. What was the rationale behind the disbanding?

They can't support the Press Gang any longer. It has become to big and unwieldy and requires manpower they do not have so they are going to work with stores directly to try to the get the stores to host and run events.

Sounds like a super bad idea. Press gangers are the cornerstone of a few play groups that I am in.

Also, though it's merely hypothesis, there is another outside factor with all of this. Wizards of the Coast are currently entangled in a lawsuit with the judges for Magic the Gathering. The judges put forth that their "volunteer" hours, and the time it takes to keep judge status, is more akin to a job and should be considered\paid for as such. If the lawsuit goes against Wizards, it could have serious implications for any organization with volunteer judges (like PP.) Combined with how difficult it can be to keep all of the PGs on the same page, working effectively, payed, ect. I'm not surprised they have chosen to let the program go, at least for the moment.
however, and I'm saying this to all the butt munches in the crowd, don't panic. Let PP explain themselves, and\or let the lawsuit run it's course before making decisions. No reason to get panties in knots and all that.

Well, that's it then. PP officially is going to follow the GW plan. I'm going to quit this game before it gets worse.

First and foremost, thanks to all of the press gangers that have put so much of their personal time in organizing events and building interest in the game.
Between the decision to wipe out a decade plus of user created content on their forum with a two day notice (hey back it up if you want to) but we don't care enough to do that) to disbanding the most vocal local advocates to the game, I don't think that PP is going in a good direction. They went from a PAGE 5! to ... this.

It was a very gracious email. It was a better goodbye than what they did with the forums.
I'm not hurt or anything. A little disappointed, but the writing has been on the wall for a while. The more recent communications with the gang strongly implied disbanding was coming.
I just don't know how well stores will take to the responsibility to run events. All the ones I have been to have very little to no interest in running anything.

I heard a rumor that PP had hired some ex-GW people. Might explain their recent decisions /s
But in all seriousness, PP's recent actions have not been very community friendly.
1. The Free Rider policy, which hurt the ability of people on a budget to play. 2. Jumping the gun on MK3 when it was clearly not ready, especially Skorne. 3. Blurring faction identities, while minor in the grand scheme of things, people become attached to. 4. Dragging their feat on errata for models that really need it, like Storm Lances. 5. Closing the faction forums rather than cleaning them up and ejecting toxic users 6. Now, ending the Press Ganger program, which got a lot of people into the game.
Hopefully CiD works out, because that's one of the ways we still have some influence, assuming they listen to our ideas.

I have zero confidence that PP will actually provide an explanation. They have definitely taken the "let's be quiet and hope they all go away" stance with recent events.

Whow... Another totally unexpected move... What was the last message to the press gang you were referring too?
It seems another very bad move... I seriously doubt that, if they havent the manpower to deal with the Press Gang (basically, the Quartermaster...) they actually have the manpower to deal with thousands of stores around the world... Expecially in Europe or in other not american countries, I seriously doubt that PP has the contact and the resources to do what the Press Gangers were doing until now...
I'm at loss, I seriously can't understand PP recent moves at all... Seems that they are really trying to suicide..
