I felt really inspired by the current episode of Dark Guidance.Theme Force "fatigue" seems to be everywhere right now and many players don't like it. The crazy Australians talk about what they think about Theme-Forces (besides some rumbeling about this and that). This podcast made me really look at all my stuff again and ask myself. What if I ran that out of theme? Hope it helps you conquer your Theme Force Blues as well. Personally I am currently building Sorscha1 and even though I really don't like her in Wg-Theme because while it may be good it feels stale and without many options. Maybe going to give Strakov2 a try next.

Khadors themes are not THAT amazing that you should feel like you NEED to use them. We get 8-12 extra points pretty much maximum out of them and a trick.

But we have a lot of them. All 3 of them are good, and I feel many people only build/think in themes so I thought maybe this will help

I'm sorry.
I cannot hear you over the sound of my heavy warjacks in Jaws of the Wolf formation!
(Will post a more constructive answer once I recharge my mobile device.)

Wah constructive Answers *duck*
In all seriousness, I think the point is not that Theme forces are bad or obsolete. I love Jaws with Strakov1, and if you want to run Pikeman I don't think there is a better way than LoS. Its just not every list and every Caster has to be in one of these Lists.

Its just not every list and every Caster has to be in one of these Lists. Exactly. In any event, I think there are some casters who don't yet have theme lists which really play to their strengths (or my play style with them): Irusk1 and Kozlov will probably both be amazing in the MoW theme; Zerkova2 obviously needs a Graylord theme. Sorscha1 I struggle with in theme, but come up with plenty of fun (and decent) non-theme lists.

Theme forces made me realize what I really really want in a particular theme but can't take. So I'm trying Ruin + Orin jackspam and Alexia wg spam now.

Ruin looks very interesting with Strakhov2 to me.
And yeah as mentioned there's still several casters who aren't really interested in the current themes.
Cheers, Dave

MOW go very well with Iron Fang Pikemen. MOW cancel out the kind of shooting that even threatens Iron Fangs, and the fangs do levels of damage that outstrips MOW.

While I enjoy building in theme, I think you're right. It's not a requirement. Lately, I find I am building one theme and one non theme in a two list pair.

Once the Man-O-War theme comes out I think we will have a pretty good range of coverage on our available models. Only in faction stuff left at that point would be Greylords and Doom Reavers. Some casters rely do need Merchs though and it just works better out of theme with them.

I for one am crazy about themes, but not everything I like fits into one yet. Still, it feels good to have a palate cleanser after reading over and over in the Trencher CID that losing some minor benefits and 8-12 free points completely invalidates the option to take Ragman or Rhupert Carvolo in all circumstances.

I think Jaws value in particular is going to hinge a lot on how SR 2017 shakes out. The abilty to deny AD is backbreaking to certain lists in SR 2016 - especially if you have a caster who can jam jacks like Hark. Much less (it seesm) valuable in SR 2017 and then you ask yourself. I may be giving up a LOT of free points but would Ragman in that list (for example) or a Bokur (another example) be a worthwhile trade off as it could allow one to 1) Focus more on Clams and Kodiaks and still hit really hard and 2) avoid paying the Rager tax and get another solo to snipe out flag points.
Just something to consider. I don't think we will know till we see the final packet and get a whole bunch of games played under SR 2017.

I don't run in any theme. I dislike using multiples of the same unit in one list which most of ours require outside of jack spam. I also don't like not using the various Merc solos I'be bought.
So yeah, theme lists can do one.

I for one am crazy about themes, but not everything I like fits into one yet. Me, too. I mostly use Themes, but when I feel like taking Strakov 1, I use my unThemed Strak/AKs/Mercs 'Black Ops' list, and just hope that the increased versatility of Merc options somewhat offsets the lack of 'free' stuff.
