The new CID cycle includes a large host of solos, new units, weapon attachments, command attachments, a structure, and even a new light jack ALL buffing the trencher infantry type for Cygnar. Also, they receive Siege2, who has Fury as a spell, and a new journeyman warcaster with Fire Group as a spell. Triumph, Siege's character jack, also gained a lot.
I count that the Trencher unit type now has 7 solos, 5 command attachments, 2 weapon attachments, and the structure which all synergize together. There are 5 different trencher units, and 3 trencher weapon crews. Outside of CID, Cygnar even has infantry that aren't trenchers, and solos and CA's and WA's for them too!
Now, unlike facebook, I'd like to avoid vitriol about other folks getting nice things, especially since this is CID information and nothing can be said about how strong the synergies will be once everything is finalized. Instead, I'd like to focus on how wonderful this would be should the same treatment be given to the other factions, and, dare I hope, ours. The numbers up above are staggering. Trenchers can be built in million different ways. If one had the inclination, he could load his trenchers with all the trimmings and end up forcing both players out of the regular game of warmachine and into the subgame of: "What Them There Trenchers Even Do?".
Which abilities are those trenchers loaded with? Is cigar smoking solo 1 nearby, cigar smoking solo 2? how bout tough looking solo 6? Are those even trenchers or are they the exact same looking version that's actually not trenchers? Even if I was a Cygnar player and I built the dang list, when asked what my trenchers do my eyes are just going to glass over. Honestly, though, if that question ever gets asked, the non-cygnar player automatically loses on death clock while the litany of abilities is recited.
I'm awfully curious, if a Cygnar player runs all min units for each infantry unit that has a CA, how many mini feats could they get off in one game? At least half a dozen, I think.
Seriously, though, the options. Just, the options. Even if 99% of the options are weak and unexciting, I would love to have those options. If any of our infantry types in Skorne were this fully fledged with solos, CA's, WA's and the like, I'd forsake my family to become a toy soldiers monk. It's like realizing that all along our faction has been a baby bird. And, you know how disgusting baby birds look, all scrawny, misshapen, and tattered. But, above us stands the Swan we will one day become, resplendent with glistening pinions and taught musculature.

I've been too scared to go have a look, tho I should because I'll be on the wrong side of the table for this CID testing - OJ

Skorne has Options and Synergies. Look at al of the Exalted interactions. Also, Swordsmen, Karax, Venator Rievers all have a "mini feat". I may have missed some. We also have one of the best Cavalry in the game. Solos? Willbreaker is awesome for the points, and Tycomm is situationally awesome and his own beatstick
The grass may look greener than Skorne deserts, but we have lots of options as well.

I'm just hoping we get a Titan and a Praetorian theme force (think Rasheth's old theme and Army of the Western Reaches) in the command book. My greatest dream is that the Worm turns out to be an Aradus light and we get an Aradus Gargantuan and unit in a Hive Horrors theme book.

Ferox + Makeda2 alone may make it tough to get a praetorian theme force.

Grenadier actually came out in 2006. With current theme options I don't think it's possible to fit more than five unique minifeats in a list. Regular long gunners, precursors, and murdoch with a deck gun comes out to 34 pts. All the other options (3 trencher varieties, stormblades) are 15pts each so two more at most. If repeated minifeats are okay, you can fit six in trencher theme.

Ferox + Makeda2 alone may make it tough to get a praetorian theme force. Just like Harkevich jack spam made it difficult to get a warjack theme force, especially one that removes Advanced Deploy! But we are Skorne. We're not allowed to have nice things.

But we are Skorne. We're not allowed to have nice things. Actually, every Warmachine faction got a "Jack Heavy" theme force by Default. Skorne will have the hardest time with theme forces since entire military is very clearly unified and shares an almost identical visual aesthetic. Even Menoth has a wider variety of grunt types. PP will have to work harder to give skorne themes clearer identity.

Maybe they just take away our theme forces entirely and just let us play 10p up. A man can dream.

I disagree with the assertion that we don't have a variety of grunt types.
Bare chested berzerkers. Statuesque warriors Guys in light armour and a lot of cloth. Dudes in heavy armour Normal Preatorians.
That's five types of guys.

Ferox + Makeda2 alone may make it tough to get a praetorian theme force. I believe Army of the Western Reaches received a nod early on (maybe in our insider or in the original insider about theme forces). If Praetorian team doesn't include Willbreakers, and I see no reason why it should, Makeda2 will probably still want to run out of theme for Willbreakers and Despoiler (if she's doing the Ferox build). If a Praetorian theme gave Advanced Move to Swordsmen, or perhaps other small based Praetorians, that would open up different builds for her and other casters that don't degenerately riff off of the strength of Ferox.

My dream makeda2 tier. Assuming wilbreaker access and a free stuff every 20 points bonus. This feels strong even without any other abilities. If swordsman got advance move it would be ridiculous.
Skorne - makeda2 praetorian tier
Theme: No Theme Selected 86 / 75 Army
Supreme Archdomina Makeda - WB: +27 - Molik Karn - PC: 19 (Battlegroup Points Used: 19) - Basilisk Krea - PC: 7 (Battlegroup Points Used: 7) - Cyclops Shaman - PC: 8 (Battlegroup Points Used: 1)
Tyrant Rhadeim - PC: 9 Mortitheurge Willbreaker - PC: 4 Mortitheurge Willbreaker - PC: 4
Praetorian Ferox - Leader & 4 Grunts: 20 Praetorian Ferox - Leader & 4 Grunts: 20 Praetorian Swordsmen - Leader & 9 Grunts: 13 - Praetorian Swordsman Officer & Standard - Officer & Standard: 4 Paingiver Beast Handlers - Leader & 3 Grunts: 5
As for faction diversity we have plenty themes. Pretorians, venators, cataphracts, immortals. I'm hoping they roll paingivers into the beast theme and give a unit of bloodruners ambush.
