So how are Cephalyx competitively right now?
Earlier in the edition they seemed to be doing really well in part because Operating Theater was one of the few existing theme forces in the game which gave Ceph a big advantage. Now that themes are pretty much everywhere are Cephalyx still a competitive choice or is a Mercs player better off in Kingmakers?

Thexus is a fine caster, probably the most powerful in Mercs but with by far the most limited army selection. He is a good second list with mags2 jack heavy in kingmaker or vanilla.
The big issue with pairing Thexus up is the push/place reliance of TK and feat. So pairing him with Bart/galleon, Gorten or Ossrum puts you in a position where both lists are weak into steady/sturdy model/units. That's why Thexus and Mags cover a lot of bases as a pair.
Effectively if your second list isn't push/place reliant then Thexus is good.
I would hesitate to pair Thexus drudge heavy with Damiano kingmaker just because they both have living troop spam and some things will feast on your eyeballs.
Thexus with 5+ heavies would be a good Damiano KM pair though.
I don't play Cyphon.

Cephalyx are still fine. Hard to answer 60 dudes or 40-50 dudes backed with 4 heavies. Magic attacks everywhere, ambushing unit, TK/push from the feat etc. Just keep Thexus alive, he's really squishy.
No idea about Cyphon though.

Hey guys! I've just started to get into Cephalyx after more than six years of only playing Farrow, so this is all a supremely weird feeling. Mostly I just got bored with the lack of pig releases and I'd always told myself that if I were to play any non-pig model, it would be Thexus. My models are still on order unfortunately, but I'll be borrowing a friend's army for a local Steamroller tomorrow. I plan on mono-listing Thexus while I wrap my head around him, just a slight variation of the 60 Drudges list (trading the two Wreckers and an Agitator for two Subduers and a Warden, partly because I really like the look of Subduers, partly because that one leftover Warjack point was bugging me). I'll be taking pictures, and I'm happy to knock out some battle reports if anyone's interested.
Actually, I may do some battle reports anyway. I find doing them to be a pretty useful learning tool and a good way of identifying mistakes.

so let me get this straight... you got tired of the lack of releases... so you got Cephalyx?... I'm not trying to be harsh but it might be worth looking into either the rest of mercs too, or perhaps another faction? Cephalyx, as we've been told, is basically a limited release inside of mercs. Soooo, don't expect much new to be coming for them for a while.

Soooo, don't expect much new to be coming for them for a while. Oh I am very, very well aware that Cephalyx don't get releases. But they're going to be brand new to me for a while, and I have a fairly high tolerance for this sort of stuff. It's grating with Minions because all Mark 2 we were meant to be one of the big factions, and then all of a sudden it felt like we were in the same boat as Convergence (there's finally some releases coming out in the future, but only one thing for pigs and not for another 5-6 months). At least with Cephalyx I know what I'm getting into. It's not that I'm looking for a source of new releases exactly, releases for the sake of having releases aren't interesting, just that I'm looking for something to sink my teeth into for a good long while. My favourite Warlock, Doctor Arkadius, is a caster I've played for around six years and I still sometimes learn a new trick with him, even though my lists have basically only had relatively minor tweaks since the Road Hog and Targ releases around 2011. Thexus strikes me as having that same potential, a high skill cap and a great depth of play even with a small selection of models. I like to pick a single list and play it until I feel I've truly mastered it, particularly lists with the flexibility and tricks to play into even terrible match-ups and pull out a win. I'm mostly just looking for something I can really sink my teeth into until the pig releases pick up again. If Thexus lasts me half as long as Doctor Arkadius has, I shouldn't have any trouble at all.

recap on Cyphon lists? I am going to run a Ceph pair for a while. Thexus is largely unknown in my area, and Cyphon is even more of an enigma.
Current Thexus:
Thexus Wrecker Wrecker Warden Max Slaves Max Benders Min Benders Min Benders Gun Mages plus Dom Gun Mages plus Dom Agitator Agitator Agitator Overlords
Cyphon (untested)
Cyphon Wrecker Wrecker Wrecker Wrecker Subduer Agitator Agitator Max Benders Max Benders Min Slaves Overlords

I'm planning on this, just to sledgehammer my way through those lists skewing armour too high for Thexus to deal with:
Cyphon -Wrecker -Wrecker -Subduer -Subduer -Warden Min Benders Min Benders Max Slavers Overlords (free) Lady Aiyana and Master Holt -Dominator Agitator Agitator Agitator
I keep wishing I could write a Warden spam list that I actually like, because 10 points for three P+S 19 initials on Feat turn is a strong return on investment, but I always end up with odd points that end up turning them into Subduers and Wreckers.
Edit:
Currently, my thoughts on Warden spam are something like this:
Cyphon -Warden -Warden -Warden -Warden -Warden -Warden -Warden -Warden Lady Aiyana and Master Holt -Dominator Kayazy Eliminators -Dominator Agitator Agitator Agitator
Have everything that can see an enemy model just slam up the board Turn 1 to conserve Focus. Fuel up with Eliminators and Cyphon, so there should be around 20 Focus to play with Turn 2. Probably go second, that allows the list to threaten to the back of most zones in SR 2017 on Turn 2. Play only into heavy armour lists that Thexus can't handle and crutch super heavily on the Feat turn. Should be able to weather most shooting lists by virtue of sharing the damage around.

Wht are the thoughts on the mk3 overlords? I have 3 unit and I am trying to figure out if I'm willing to pay 8 points for them. But there theme list is really the only way to play so many the cost is not a problem?

I'm not sure about three units but I know that it's easy to play two in a single list if you're maxing out on Drudges/dominated units.

Played in a 4 round SR today with double Ceph lists.
Lists:
thexus wrecker wrecker warden agitatorx3 Max benders min benders min benders max slaves gunmages + dom gunmages + dom overlords
cyphon wrecker wrecker wrecker wrecker max slaves min benders min benders max slaves overlords eliminators + dom eliminators + dom
Game 1 into pSorscha double fun carriage and tons of guns. Decel helps on the advance, OP gets ballsy and leaves a windrushed sorsha within charge distance on two (stationary) wreckers. despute the obviousness of the play I am actually in a tough spot because I cannot get thexus to TK her, and I cannot get an Agitator in to instigate. i manage to get each some focus after shaking and I send in the wreckers. A total of 4 attacks produces two hits, enough to kill her
1-0
Game 2 I face eHaley with SW and the BE plus more jacks. Way too aggresive with hexus i get Tk'ed out and charged by Stormwall
1-1
Game 3 into Dark Host (eAikos) I drop Cyphon to get reps. He moves up with tons of banes and stalkers on the flank. Wrecker s do serious work on feat turn, and cagey convulsion pulses neuter the stalkers. we get to the wire and i run out of gas, the cryx player runs me out on scenario.
1-2
Game 4 into Butch3r. He is on Jaws, its all jacks plus some eliminators. I drop thexus. we dance a little, i feat in his first wave of jacks but can only kill two, he gets Bucher poised for the longball charge but ends up being slightly out. he opts to murder my army, killing both wreckers and most of my benders. he feat do my Warden cannot charge him so I had to create a scenario where I TK butcher near to Ruin, after killing the wardog. I TK the Warden into charge range of Ruin, and dump all my attacks into killing him. This was after i sank every last spray/magelock i could muster into him, droppinmg him down to 2 focus and 11 wounds left.
2-2
Notes:
This was my first real test with Cephalyx. It is hard for me to pplay double control casters but I am learning. The Cyphon list is solid, thexus I am going to try a slightly different build:
Thexus Wrecker x3 Agitator x3 Min Bender Min Bender Max Bender Max Slaves Eliminators + Dom Aiyana and Holt + Dom Overlords

Need some help with choosing dominated Merc. I plan on useing Thexis first and then Cyphon So far I have:
Steelhead halberdiers Crowes cut throats (interested to know if there is any merit to useing these guys with Thexis and maby Lady Aiyana and master Holt?) Nyss hunters Lady Aiyana and master Holt Kazyay assassin's and eleminators ×2 Tactical Arcanist Corp.

I use Thorn Gun Mages in my Thexus list, since they add extra pushes which is handy for scenario. Croes are also great with Thexus since he can TK an enemy around to enable backstab.
If you're playing Monstrosity heavy (with either caster) I recommend Kayazy Eliminators to help load them up with focus thanks to Anatomical Precision.
While I haven't used them myself, I hear that Nyss are good with Cyphon thanks to Blur.
I would stay away from the TAC and Steelheads. The TAC don't do enough for their points, and more drudges are better than Steelheads.
