No, but I don’t really have much to add. I’ve not played WM in a few years now so I can’t say it’s part of my life. I’m still playing D&D and painting minis so there’s that but idk if that’s especially interesting to anyone here. Any dumb things you did or witnessed during your RP adventures?
Also: I had a casual tourney last saturday.
went 1-2, so not great, not terrible.
Here’s my favorite RP story. About ten years ago I was at the game shop and I got trapped in a conversation with the very epitome of the basement-dwelling D&D nerd stereotype. Dumpy, balding, middle-aged, overweight dude. I kid you not, I heard the following words said to me by a real human being: “Do you want me to tell you about a level 20 female half elf paladin? She has her own airship.”

We’re playing through Curse of Strahd so there’s been plenty of near death/actual death experiences. I’m actually on my second character. I’ve played pen and paper RPGs for 15 years and that was my first character to die >.< She was a rogue/bard who was terrible at noticing things. Character high point: Roping the entire party into improvising (and rping out IRL) a short play. I won’t recap it all here unless you want to read a short story but it was an incredible moment in terms of entertainment and top shelf rping. Character low: Her death. She didn’t notice a door was trapped and blew the heck up. It took her to -67hp, well past her max. So it was an instant death. Of course the party felt it was pretty on brand, haha. Currently I’m playing a Tiefling Cleric/Warlock who doesn’t know she’s in a warlock pact. It’s a whole thing. Not exactly d&d related but I’ve also been listening to a lot of Nordic music lately. 🤔

@micheal
The local WM players meet on a day I work. If they ever decide to play on a weekend I just might! Even though I know next to nothing about Mk:3
Also I would have listened to that weird guys d&d story. At least up until it got too gross/sexist for me to handle.

Had a good one just the other week:
So the party I DM for have the tactical sense of squirrels on PCP, and are frequently getting into a pickle because of it. Some examples of this include trying to burn their way out of webs that they are currently stuck in, trying to diving tackle a ghost off a cliff, and retreating into a pit trap they themselves set to prevent their enemies from retreating down that corridor.
In the most recent session, they were fighting a lot of undead whilst standing less than 30 ft from a warded area that undead can't enter. They know about this area. They helped create it last session. It is clearly marked. Nonetheless, the party has taken the fight to the undead and are getting smacked around.
The Warlock has levitated himself 20 ft off the ground to escape the spectres that are harassing him... but they can also fly. He's in a pickle. The Ranger and the Barbarian are being mobbed by zombies and wights, and too busy to help. The wizard has polymorphed himself into a dinosaur and is trying to bite a wraith.
The only other player is a new Monk, in their second session.
"I'm going to attack the spectres." "Okay, they're 20 ft up so you'll need some way to reach them" "Yup, I will use Step of the Wind to double my jump distance, and the boots of striding and springing to triple it. I'll take a 10ft run-up, which lets me jump... 30 ft into the air, I think? Might only be 20ft."
Rule of Cool, I allowed it, and he punched the hell out of them whilst leaping up and down like some martial-arts whack-a-mole.
After that he did a 70 ft running jump over the whole battle into the safe zone and shouts encouragement to the rest of the party, who finally decide that maybe the undead-proof space would be a good place to stand.
And that's how the whole party was saved by really good jumping!

Make that group of players play on a weekend. I recommend something in the Deliverance family. Can’t go wrong with the classics.

Since we're talking D&D, I happened upon this yesterday: m.youtube.com/watch?v=BF5gdvMyuOsAlso just had a couple of games of The Undercity with a friend who isn't into wargames but has started to show an interest in boardgames. He enjoyed it. Hopefully interest will be sustained long enough to finish the campaign.

"Well she's level Firetrucking twenty, if it's not a dogganm planeshifting airship I say she needs to up her game."

So I just had my first Warmachine game in over a year. It wasn't exactly a real game as I was just demoing the game (to a player who has some experience with 40K and Infinity), but still, I got more excited about wargaming than I have been in a while.
The guy is already looking at picking up a secondhand army from Ebay. He asked me about factions, so I told him Khador is the best and most popular faction, aaaand... that's about it. He's currently considering Khador, Cygnar, and Protectorate; he asked me for a summary of how the factions play and I had a really hard time answering him, as I realised that a) how an army plays depends so much on the warcaster that any faction can have a fast list or a shooty list or a tough list b) I'm so out of touch that I don't know anymore

But turn the question around: What kind of playstyle does he want? If he gives a very specific answer that might point him at a certain faction.
Otherwise he should pick what he likes the looks/background of most.

But turn the question around: What kind of playstyle does he want? Apparently he wants an army that "plays like Custodes". Which apparently means super-elite infantry, fast bikes, and tanks with long-range guns. I told him that of the factions that he shortlisted for aesthetics (Khador, Cygnar, Protectorate), Khador has the best heavy infantry and good fast cavalry, Cygnar has the best long-range shooting and best fast cavalry, and Menoth has good shooting, good cavalry, great jack support, and good elite infantry. He seems to be torn between Khador and Menoth right now, but he's ordered some Menoth models to start with.

Armored Corps / Warriors of the Old Faith?
Basically you have your well-rounded elite infantry coupled with a list involving more cavalry -and if he goes Vlad3/superfriends you can't really get more elite than that.

I suggested he not buy anything and we just proxy for a few games till he understands the game better, but... shiny new model syndrome I guess. Ah well, I'm sure it'll all work out.

I choked down the atrocity that was the most recent Acts of War fiction. I...didn’t like it.
It’s been so long since we got decent and thoughtful Khador fiction that I can’t even think of a Khador story I would like to read.
The last like ten Cygnar-centric books have done nothing but drill into our heads the idea that Khador actually operates as if it is a Boris-Badenov-like Soviet Russia in some 1950’s American propaganda fever dream.
I...am out of ideas on how to turn this around.

Stop buying the Cygnar-centric books. Buy multiple copies of the Khador-centric ones. Once PP sees that Khador fiction sells better they will... probably not change anything tbh.
