...is a bad theme, or so I hear. (I'm going to try it anyway) As I see it (completely untested), the optimal freerange is 2 free cards, which should probably be Narn and A.N.Other (Probably a Mage Hunter Assassin, if you're not using solo-Eiryss) This Theme basically improved my "starter" Elara 2 list, and my plan was to play some more and see what works (AKA plan, throw more shit at the wall and see what sticks) {Thoughts included here} Elara 2 (+28) - Aspis (6) {Elara's squishy, yo?} - Cimera (8) {for Marked for Death arcing} - Griffon (8) {for Scything Touch on a really mobile platform} - Manticore (14) {"Budget" heavy with a covering fire wall that the infiltrators can play engage-kill-reposition behind under the feat turn - maybe more cute than good; test this} - Manticore (14) {"Budget" heavy with a covering fire wall that the infiltrators can play engage-kill-reposition behind under the feat turn - maybe more cute than good; test this} Arcanist Mechanik x3 (6) {duh} Mage Hunter Assassin x2 (4) {To be elsewhere-threats that can't be ignored, independents to pin down flanks, etc. One free from Theme} Narn, Mage Hunter of Ios (0) {Free from theme, like the above but a "safe" later-game piece to control space around Elara IMO} Soulless Voidtracer (2) {again, some protection for the caster and associated package; I haven't found Voidtracers great, but for two points, why not?} Mage Hunter Infiltrators, with Eiryss and a Soulless (20) {With Reform, I think these guys can actually shine, especially under Elara's feat for Ghostly and Boundless - they're still in place to die/jam, but they do it for longer behind a covering fire wall when they can engage easily ans disengage without taking free strikes (why they don't have native parry is beyond me, of course... ) Mage Hunter Strike Force with Commander and Soulless (21) {Not quite as good as always, but still substantial into the 'jack matchup while remaining slippery for zone contesting} I'm not sure I love it, but I'll certainly try it.

Eh. It's not a bad theme, just...limited. That being said, I feel like Elara misses out on most of the things she wants to take by playing in the theme, so she's not what I'd choose to run.
My idea:
Kaelyssa (+29)
Chimera (8) Chimera (8) Hydra (15) Banshee (18)
Mage Hunter Strike Force + CA (20) Mage Hunter Strike Force + CA (20)
Narn (0) Eiryss1 (0) MHA (4) MHA (4) Arcanist (2) Arcanist (2) Arcanist (2)
Admittedly, you probably don't drop it into most hordes casters, but it can give a lot of warmachine casters a hard time. Lots of assassination vectors, and enough arc nodes to make backlash a real threat for the entire game.

I was thinking along those lines:
(Vyros 1) Dawnlord Vyros [+28] - Imperatus [22] - Manticore [14] - Manticore [14] - Phoenix [18] Arcanist Mechanik [2] Arcanist Mechanik [2] Mage Hunter Assassin [4] Mage Hunter Assassin [4] Narn, Mage Hunter of Ios [0(6)] Mage Hunter Infiltrators (min) [8] Spears of Scyrah [9] - Eiryss, Mage Hunter Commander [6]
It basically just uses the +1 on the starting roll and gets a free narn, but Vyros wants Jacks and Infiltrators anyways.

I was thinking Vyros1 as well.
How about Ossyan? Warmachine outnumbers Hordes (at least locally) and dual Strike Force can shoot through Khador clouds with mini-feats (as can Hypnos) and get you up on attrition with Ossyan's feat. Against Haley2 Hypnos is safe from Domination and if she does what she normally does (rushes a Stormwall up with Arcane Shield and feats to prevent your army from advancing) you simply counter-feat and shoot it with the trike Forces.
Ossyan - Shadows of the Retribution - Hypnos - Banshee - Sphinx 3 Arcanists Eiryss1 (free) Narn (free) 2 Mage Hunter Assassins 2 full Mage Hunter Strike force + Commander

It can't be all that bad as I was essentially already playing in theme with Kaelyssa and Elara2 and doing pretty well. My Elara2 list needed literally zero changes to be in theme (though I did need to shift some stuff around to make maximum advantage of the free points) and for Kaelyssa army all I really needed to do was give Elara1 a Gorgon or two instead of Discordia. Losing out on Discordia and Moros stings a bit, but because theme forces are stupid and poorly designed you kind of have to play them if your army design is close to fitting one and you want to be competitive.
From memory (so there may be some errors) my armies ended up looking like this:
Elara2 -Chimera -Griffon x 2 -Manticore x 2 Arcanist x 2 (one is free) Narn (free) Infiltrators (10) + Eiryss3 Strike Force (10) + CA Spears of Scyrah
Kaelyssa -Banshee -Hydra x 2 Elara1 (free) -Gorgon Eiryss 1 (free) Arcanists x 2 Nayl (!) Strike Force (10) + CA x 2

It lets me put most of my W9V stuff back on the table, so I'm not going to complain too hard.
Retribution Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] Shadows of the Retribution
!!! Your army contains a pre-release entry. !!! You are using a pre-release theme.
(Ravyn 1) Ravyn, The Eternal Light [+30] - Aspis [6] - Hyperion [36] Arcanist Mechanik [2] Arcanist Mechanik [2] Mage Hunter Assassin [0(4)] Mage Hunter Assassin [4] Narn, Mage Hunter of Ios [0(6)] Mage Hunter Strike Force (max) [16] - Mage Hunter Strike Force Commander [4] Mage Hunter Strike Force (max) [16] - Mage Hunter Strike Force Commander [4] Spears of Scyrah [9] - Eiryss, Mage Hunter Commander [6]
I think this could be fun. No word yet on whether it would be even decent. I suppose we'll see.

I tried it this weekend and did terrible. Was with elara2, 3 heavies, chimera griffon and two full units of mage hunter assassins.
My dice were epicly bad so its hard to blame the theme. I was playing against nemo3. I couldnt kill a firefly with 2 heavies leaving it sitting on in the middle of my army. Nemo goes, feats and elelctroleaps everything except for half a unit of mhsf and the griffon alive. I did almost manage to get the assassination though, left the old man on 1 box.
Overall, get really good at moving a lot of models very fast if you are using the deathclock.

So you played the list into what is basically its hard counter? Nemo loves seeing that much squishy infantry.

I have to admit, when this theme was first released alongside the Defender's of Ios one, I was pretty unimpressed. However, none of my other stuff was painted, cause I am slow, so I went ahead and took it out for a jaunt on camera.
Dawnlord Vyros, Shadows of the Retribution -Helios -Imperatus -Sphinx Arcanist Mechanik x3 Narn (free) Mage Hunter Assassin Mage Hunter Assassin Mage Hunter Infiltrators (max) -Eiryss3 -Soulless Escort
The list itself was the best I could think up of the top of my head. I have always appreciated Infiltrators with pVyros, and wanted to sneak Narn in due to his interaction with the Feat, Parry, and Acrobatics. I felt that Helios is straight money with pVyros, Sp 7, Def 12/14, Arm 21, with Repulse and Poltergeist is insane. Can't go without Imp, then I added the Sphinx purely as a cheap beater in order to initiate piece trades. I honestly thought the list was rather mediocre, but when I put it on the table, I was very impressed not only with how it functioned, but also with the incredible speed that it brought to bear.
I also put together this guy that I am interested in trying out:
Goresh4de, Shadows of the Retribution -Helios -Phoenix Arcanist Mechanik Eiryss, Mage Hunter of Ios (free) Mage Hunter Assassin Mage Hunter Assassin Narn MHSF -UA MHSF -UA
The list is fast, and generally higher defense which allows for a more meaningful feat turn. Chiller interacts very well with MHSF and Assassins, as it gives the Assassins +2 to hit, but then they go back to 0.5" melee, and your other models are able to shoot the target without the downsides of it being engaged.

I'm really wanting to try out the following Kaelyssa list:
Kaelyssa - 2 Banshees 2 Arcanists Narn (free) Eiryss1 (free) 2 MHA (1 free) 2 Max MHSF +CAs +1 Soulless Spears +1 Soulless Min Infiltrators
Gets the full three free cards and I think it has some solid potential. Kaelyssa's battlegroup can threaten many casters and her feat can be held on to for late game (I've found it's often best held for later, and lots of Stealth can help reduce its early necessity.)
2 Strike Force units can put the hurt on Warmachine plus they can join in on assassination after a caster gets knocked down and stripped of Focus/Fury.
Eiryss1 and Kae can Firetruck with Fury and do the whole Stationary/Disruption shtick, plus Eiryss1 can stay safely beyond LOS blocking terrain if she isn't needed that turn.
Spears are solid for keeping the Bansheesand Kae safe early game and can potentially do some nasty work if they're not needed for dying duty.
Infiltrators I'm not a huge fan of but they're not awful and they can get more work done thanks to the theme. Narn and the MHAs are similar, save them for late game/cycle Refuge for multiple uses and they're golden (Refuge helps Narn do work on hard targets too without immediately dying without Sprint.) Can run these (Narn, MHAs, Infiltrators) as flankers to threaten Juniors and support staff.
Hopefully going to get a couple of games with it in tomorrow.

Well, first game with the above list went pretty well, match up was vs Grim2 Troll CID Kriel Company theme. He had Scattergunners, a War Wagon (pre-infinite Impacts (!)) and a pair of Bombers, so lots of AOEs and Stealth ignoring, which didn't seem fun.
Theme did pretty well, spread out a bunch which helped blunt the AOEs. Blur helped blunt the Scattergunners.
The anti-Tough came up a lot, because Trolls, which was handy. Keeping the Infiltrators back for late game helped get them to get good work done (they ended up finishing the War Wagon and killed a few Sons of Bragg.)
Eiryss1 and Kaelyssa kept Firetrucking about with his Fury which was really handy, though Eiryss got super lucky by not dying to serve AOEs landing on her.
But yeah, pleasantly surprised by the theme and going to keep trying that list.

Played two games today with my Thyron list against Thagrosh1 and Damiano. I won both matches pretty easily. The theme feels stronger each time I play it.
